With the announcement this week that a Carolina Beer Temple is opening in Ayrsley, I started realizing that it’s a neighborhood finally coming onto it’s own.

In real estate, timing is as important to a project’s success as what’s offered and how it’s marketed.  If the timing is wrong, any project regardless of how incredible, can ultimately falter.  That was the case with the Work-Live southwest Charlotte neighborhood of Ayrsley.
Planning for the 180 acre development started in 2000 and construction commenced a few years later.  The neighborhood consists of a mix of condos, townhomes, apartments and work-live townhomes, which include a lower level office or retail space in place of a garage.  The concept was new for Charlotte since work-live was something not seen in Charlotte and this is coming at a time when the Steele Creek as a whole is starting to develop.  Unfortunately, the neighborhood struggled during the recession and there were proposals to alter the original plan for the neighborhood.  Ultimately, those proposals went nowhere and now Ayrsley is finally realizing it’s potential.
The neighborhood is designed as one where the residents can leave their cars at home and walk.  The Ayrsley Town Center has a 14 screen movie theater, 8 restaurants, two hotels, commercial tenants, and the Steele Creek YMCA.  Ayrsley is also the home of the Piedmont Social House; a place with great food, lots of activities from shuffle board, video games, to bowling.  It’s convenient location, just off I-485 and South Tryon Street, makes it an ideal place for commuters heading to Uptown or working in southwest Charlotte.  Nearby notable business include Continental Tire, BASF, Microsoft, and Northrop Grumman.
