T/N: The article is an op-ed in The Joongang Daily by Heo Jiwon, a psychology professor from Korea University. Titled "Don't be fooled by the brains of today", the article talks about how difficult it is to be happy. Our brains, as they exist today, were not designed to be happy, they evolved to always look for danger. For 700 years, the human brain has been constantly anxious, in order to survive. That's why, if we want to be happy, we have to come up with our own more sophisticated strategies. The author recommends two: to savour every moment and to search for enjoyment. She asks the reader to savour every little thing - a bit of warmth on your face, nice weather, the kindness of another person. While it maybe be difficult and seem excessive, it is important to find joy in every moment because if we don't, we start to see our lives very negatively, and that makes it harder to keep on living.
