Today is DAY ONE of the 21 Day Sugar Detox. And I am EXCITED (and scared and craving a cookie). Let's start with some basics, shall we? What is the 21 Day Sugar Detox? The 21 Day Sugar Detox (21 DSD) is way to clear your Sugar of refined sugar and keep your natural sugar intake as minimal as possible. This includes removing refined, added, natural, and a lot of carbs from your diet. Why participate in the 21 Day Sugar Detox? Simply, to challenge yourself to eat a more natural, balanced diet and break the addiction one has to sugar. Why am I, personally, participating in the 21 DSD? I'm taking part of the 21 DSD because I've noticed a giant spike in my sugar intake, both refined and natural. I feel like the more I eat sugar (added, refined, natural) the more I crave it. I want curb my cravings and get back to a more Whole Foods way of eating. When I began my journey, even before I had my WLS, I began in a very similar way and was really successful with maintain my eating habits and making healthy choices unless I have a relapse of depression that caused me to care very little about eating well, exercising... and well, it made care very little about anything at all. Then when I was hit with the death of my mother, I completely went off course. I am using this 21 DSD as a way to get myself back to where I was in terms of food and craving and being able to keep my cravings at bay. DAY 1! ( Don't worry! I'll update with some pictures later, I didn't take any at work but I'm eating the same ish basics for the week and I haven't made dinner yet!) Breakfast: A very odd smoothie with avocado, banana, almond butter, coconut milk, coco powder and cinnamon Lunch: "Chipotle" burrito bowlish situation that I made in the crock pot with chicken, peppers, onions, and beans. Dinner: Will be steak and oven roasted veggies For snacks I had: an apple, cottage cheese and a couple homemade lattes with almond milk and no sweetener. I have tackled dessert thoughts yet... I love having dessert every night whether it's fruits or something "bad" so I'll have to update you guys tomorrow on what I end up choosing. It might be tough.
