sustenance (3345 words)

Star Trek: Discovery Rating: Mature Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Katrina Cornwell/Mirror Philippa Georgiou Summary: Food brings a family together, and lets them say goodbye, but it has no taste for her. Kat needs something to shake her out of her exhaustion, maybe she'll find it at the last meal before Discovery goes to the future.

Depression and trauma make favorite things (like bourbon) not as comforting as they were. Kat looks for comfort in the (mildly self destructive) unknown. I wanted to find that grey everything feeling, and think of something suitably wild to snap herself out of it.

A potluck in a potluck, that was fun because I love Laira getting to be part of the Disco family, who are so lovely.

Michael tries to give Laira the kind of dinner she might actually need, and they end up sharing a pilot's breakfast. In the traditional style…

Making state dinners fun and giving Laira a break by research long-haul freighter culture in ways only Michael can. (though Pilot's Breakfast has a delightful double meaning).

Star Trek: Discovery Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Michael Burnham/Laira Rillak, Michael Burnham & Crew of the Starship Discovery, Laira Rillak & Crew of the Starship Discovery Summary: Michael asks Laira to join her for a cooking contest on a small space station in Sector Sixteen. Michael doesn't really know how to cook, but that's not a problem. She's a fast learner.

Cooking together is a great way to make sure you're compatible, and build in elaborate proposals. I really enjoyed writing this one because there are space rutabagas and making up traditions is fun.
