2021 reading challenge | week 52
this year, were you able to read books from authors with different nationalities/sexualities/identities? I did! about a quarter of the books I read were from LGBTQ authors or had queer protagonists. I also read a LOT of books in translation and from different countries. I read a fair number of books by authors of color, but I would like to make that a priority for 2022.
what is the best book of the year for you? ohhhhh man. if I have to pick just one, I will go with the sabbath, just for overall impact on my life
2021 Reading Challenge
December ’21 | Week 4
❄ This year, were you able to read books from authors with different nationalities/sexualities/identities?
Yes, yes, and yes.
❄ What is the best book of the year for you?
I read a lot of great books that came out in different years, so for this year, the best book for me was "Finding Junie Kim" by Ellen Oh.
Week 52
This year, were you able to read books from authors with different nationalities/sexualities/identities?
Yes!! Part of my 2021 Reading Challenge was specifically geared towards reading books by POC and LGBT+ authors and I’m super happy that I did!
What is the best book of the year for you?
First of all, how dare you make me narrow this down, second of all, I have a List, and third of all, here are my top ten best books in no particular order:
“American Gods” by Neil Gaiman
“Mistborn: The Final Empire” by Brandon Sanderson
“Moxie” by Jennifer Mathieu
“One of Us is Lying” by Karen M. McManus
“The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak
“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson
“Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun” by Jonny Garza Villa
“Cinderella is Dead” by Kalynn Bayron
“Jaws” by Peter Benchly
“You’re So Dead” by Ash Parsons
~ goodbye 2021, you have been a Challenge ~
Week 51
What is your favorite classic that you have read this year?
I am so glad that you specified *this* year or else I would’ve been having a hard time narrowing things down! But my favourite classic from 2021 is “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley (or else “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” by Seth Grahame-Smith & Jane Austen, if this counts as a classic!)
Do you read theatre plays? Do you have a favorite?
I 100% do not because I’m not a fan of theatre or plays or musicals or anything on stage that isn’t Shakespeare, but in saying that, I have read the screenplay for “Dead Poets Society” by Nancy H. Kleinbaum and there were Tears Involved.

2021 Reading Challenge
December ’21 | Week 2
🍂 Which author would like to meet?
V.E Schwab
🍂 What would you ask them?
I don't think I would want to ask them anything. I think I would like to thank her for everything she does.
2021 reading challenge | weeks 49-51
what was your favorite fairytale as a child? I wouldn't call it a fairy tale, but I was obsessed with the secret garden (for a lot of the reasons I think children are interested in fairy tales)
what is your favorite fairytale now? I'm not hugely into fairytales, actually, either originals or retellings
which author would like to meet? would love to go to one of john darnielle's readings (why oh why is devil house not coming to my city?)
what would you ask them? see, after volunteering at a library for a long time and meeting several of my favorite authors, I've just realized I'm always happier with the version in my own head. I love going to book talks and things, but at the end of the day I like to keep my creatives separate from my media consumption
what is your favorite classic that you have read this year? I read a few actually! sir gawain and the green knight wins I think, with the odyssey and moby dick as runners-up
do you read theatre plays? do you have a favorite? I read several in high school - shakespeare, obviously, but also raisin in the sun, our town, and the stage version of to kill a mockingbird. I'll always have a soft spot for our town since I was in a production of it once.
