隣り合わせの明日を待つだけ

曇り空のせいか、美容院で炭酸スパまでしてもらったのにまだ目が覚めない。お昼に食べたつけ麺が思いのほか辛く、口直しにタブレットを放り込む。このままさっさと家に帰ってもよかったが、どうしてもリードディフューザーを買いたくて、祭りで賑わう通りを抜けてお目当ての雑貨屋に向かった。同じ香りがする化粧水や美容液も気になったけれど、今日はアロマオイルとディフューザーを購入。倉庫のようなカフェでいちじくのタルトを食べて本を読んでいるうちに、少しずつ頭が冴えてきた。
秋の夜にぴったりな、スパイシーでほの暗い香りが部屋を包んで心地いい。組み立てたばかりのイーゼルに真っ白なスケッチブックを立てかけた。描きたいものはだいたい決まっているけれど、そこから形にしていくのが難しいのだということを、私は嫌ほど知っている。
呪詛のような言葉を目につく場所に記されることが、今まで何度もあった。自分だって似たようなことをこの場で繰り返してきたからお互い様なのだけれど、いつまでも私はその人にとっての加害者であり続けるんだな、とそれらの言葉を見るたび思う。憎まれたり恨まれたりしても、私は私で生きていくことをやめられないし、いまさら罪滅ぼしができる気もしない。手を差し出したところで逆効果に違いないから、なるべく触れることなく日々を送る。許してもらうことも、願うことさえも、少なくとも今は叶わない。仮に嘘や誤解が未だに横たわっているとしても、本当の事実を確かめ合えるのは、きっともっと先の話。
