"Maybe Alex was right. My need for everything to stay exactly the same was what screwed things up. If things never change they decay." - 100 Days Of Cake by Sheri Goldhagen #bookquotes #quote #sherigoldhagen #2016reads #100daysofcake

“I realized we were both broken, he and I. We were a couple of fractured lines, running parallel to one another, stuck in families that wouldn’t ever truly let us go. And I was sorry for hurting him.”
No.40 The Torontonians by Phyllis Brett Young Em's aunt gave this to me a. Pipes of years ago and it sat on the eternal pile until a few days ago when I decided t was the perfect length to finish before the end of the year. It's lovely and brilliant. It should be an iconic book, it should be read more widely and on more (if any) curriculums, but hey, that's what lost treasures should do I suppose. Set in 1959 Toronto and with some moments of 1940s Toronto, there are moments in the book and it's description of the city and its way of life that remind you that there are some things in this town we call home that never ever change, even 60-70 years later. There is a small paragraph about student tickets and show by student id on the TTC that could be exchanged for any point in our lives and still be perfectly understandable to anyone from here, is so fucking Toronto. And so, 40 books for 2016 read, time to get started on the 2017 count. Peace, fellow readers. #finishedreading #reading #readto #bookto #bookblr #fiction #canlit #lostgem #reader #instabooks #bookstagram #instareads #2016reads
Favorite Reads of 2016 One More Thing Next to all of the David Sedaris I read this year, BJ was my fave! I highly recommend experiencing this book through audio. He had many guest readers and it was just the best. His delightful short stories are inventive, thoughtful and witty. A fun re-read.
