In 2012, three years after Liam and Noel's dramatic fallout and subsequent split of Oasis, the two estranged brothers found themselves attending the same house party at George Michael's residence.
Liam confirmed the story in an interview with Apple Musicâs Beats 1 radio in 2019, confirming the pair were there after the London Olympics celebrations.
"I think he was there with his missus and that, and then we balled in and stuff, you know what I mean? And very soon he just understood, you know what I mean?" Liam said in the interview.
According to Liam, the two decided they couldn't stay in the same house together.
"George Michaelâs house is big, but itâs not big enough for the both of us, you know what I mean, and one of us had to leave, and it was him."
However, David Austin, a friend and collaborator of Michael's said the pair were very amicable at the bash. âThey came to the house and there was a bit of hoo-ha because Noel was there and they hadnât seen each other for quite a while. Well, they hadnât seen each other at all," Austin told Radio X.
âI remember Georgeâs PA was going, âWeâve got Liam at the front door, are we gonna let him in?â Yeah, of course, f--king hell, open the door and bring him in.â And they got on like a house on fire, actually, very amicable, down the end of the garden at the bar.â (x)
A little pre-story:
Noel Gallagher left it to his brother Liam to sing Wonderwall at the Olympics closing ceremony after organisers asked him to mime the song.
âI was asked to do it a very long time ago and to be frank, they were being so secretive about it, you know,â said Noel.
âI was like, âWho else is playing?â and they were like, âI canât tell youâ, youâve got to sign a confidentiality agreement.
âItâs like itâs the Iran nuclear programme or something. What do these people think is going to happen? ITV are going to get hold of it and run a gig the night before with the same bill?â
âThen they wanted me to do it acoustically, and wanted me to mime, and Iâm all for miming in TV shows, I love that. I wish I could mime on Jools Holland. It would save me a lot of messing about. Â
âBut if youâre in a stadium with 80,000 people and youâre pretending, I could play live and one of the organisers said, âItâs a big gigâ and I was like âReally. I do this for a living?ââ
âIâd only had a few days off and they wanted me to re-record the song, then 14 daysâ rehearsals and in the end I was like Iâd rather watch it on the telly but then Liamâs lot stepped in and did it and there you go.â
In response, Noel decided to leave the organisers on tenterhooks.
âThey had to re-record it and send it to me and I did play a bit of cat and mouse with them for a few days. I took it to Friday night at 10pm before I said yes and they were s***ting it.â
Noel certainly didnât rate his brotherâs efforts, dedicating the track to âStratfordâs finest tribute bandâ during his Xfm gig for Warchild at Camdenâs Dingwalls. (x)
