drew Karai in a qipao! I was thinking about Shen's heritage and like, how I see people draw TMNT character in Japanese attire pretty regularly (for obvious reasons) but hardly ever see anything Chinese, despite Shen being a quarter Chinese (and likely raised to be proud of it, is my guess, considering she has a Chinese given name despite being a third generation immigrant). which ofc makes Karai 1/8th Chinese, so! wanted to draw her in a cute dress :)
my knowledge of traditional chinese outfits is like. super minimal, though, so lmk if some aspect of this makes no sense dfhklsdahgksdg. I looked at a LOT of them but I'm always nervous drawing stuff from other cultures 💀

“She doesn’t even have any body guards! How stupid can she be?”—the last thoughts of a grown ass man that apparently can’t recognize a trap that’s two feet in front of him.
Disappointed Karai didn’t have a relationship with any of the other turtles besides Leo. I think her relationship with Mikey would have been entertaining to watch.

Hey what if 2012 splinter had the same backstory as IDW splinter with the execution and reincarnation thing, except his only kid was Karai and the mutant turtle sons was just a weird thing that happened to him later on. Everything else even shredder is the same as 2012 but splinter and Karai are from ancient Japan. Would that be fucked up or what.
The Evolution of April O'Neil and Karai's dynamic throughout the 2012 TMNT series.
I love their dynamic so freaking much!
They're an underrated duo and they have very interesting chemistry with each other; as former enemies and as friends.
From arch-rivals, to enemies, to allies, to friends with a sisterly bond with each other.
Not to mention that April and Karai are Two Sides of the Same Coin, similar to Glimmer and Catra from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
And to be bluntly honest here, April has better dynamics with Karai and Leo than she does with Donnie and Casey, who are obsessed with her in a very one-sided, selfish, immature, obnoxious, creepy, entitled, invasive, stalking way.
could u possibly make a karai x reader where reader is experiencing family problems at the moment and comes to her for comfort? (they are dating !!!!)
Karai has been one of my favorites since FOREVER. This was so fun to write! <3
A Safe Place to Fall
2012 Karai x Reader
Warnings: familial problems, fluff, hurt/comfort, slight AU because Karai has her own apartment and she is not mutated
The apartment is quiet except for the faint hum of the city outside. You’re sitting on the edge of Karai’s couch, shoulders curled inward, fingers twisting together so tightly your knuckles ache.
You hadn’t even meant to come over. Your feet just… brought you here. To the one place where you felt like you could actually breathe. Where you could exist without walking on eggshells.
Karai notices, of course. She always does.
She steps out from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a towel, her sharp gaze softening the moment she sees your expression. No teasing smirk. No playful comment.
“…Hey,” she says gently. “Come here.”
You try to speak, but your throat closes. Instead, you shake your head, staring at your hands.
Karai kneels in front of you. Her fingers tilt your chin up with feather-light insistence, dark eyes searching yours. “You’re shaking.”
That’s all it takes. The dam breaks.
Words spill out in fragments. Arguments, raised voices, feeling unwanted, feeling like no matter what you do it’s never enough. Family expectations pressing down like a weight on your chest. The exhaustion. The loneliness. The frustration of loving people who hurt you and try to fix it with a "you know I love you, kid."
Karai listens without interrupting. No judgment. No impatience. Just unwavering attention, like every word matters because it came from you.
When you finally run out of breath, she exhales slowly, her thumb brushing beneath your eye to catch a tear.
“You’re here now,” she says. “With me.”
You let out a broken laugh. “I feel stupid for crying about this.”
Karai’s expression sharpens, not in anger, but conviction. “Do not belittle your pain. If something hurts you, it matters.”
She stands, tugging you gently upward by your hands until you’re forced against her. Your forehead presses into her shoulder. Her arms wrap around you, strong, secure, and warm.
At first, you’re stiff. Then you melt.
She rubs slow circles into your back, steady and grounding. Like she’s anchoring you to the present.
“You do not owe your family perfection,” Karai murmurs near your ear. “You are not responsible for fixing everything. You are allowed to be tired. You are allowed to hurt.”
Your breath shudders.
“I’ve fought my whole life to prove myself to people who never saw me,” she continues quietly. “I know that wound. And I promise you… you are not alone in it.”
You pull back just enough to look at her. Her eyes are intense, unwavering, but gentle in a way few ever get to see.
“What if it never gets better?” you whisper.
Karai’s lips curve into a small, determined smile. “But it will get better. Because you will build a life beyond their chaos. And I intend to be part of it.”
You laugh softly as your chest warms. “You’re very dramatic, you know that?”
She smirks, some of her usual fire returning. “I am very devoted. There is a difference.”
You roll your eyes, but lean back into her embrace.
She presses a kiss to your forehead. Then another. Then one to the corner of your mouth, and a final one slow, careful, and grounding on your lips.
“Stay tonight,” she says. “Eat something. Rest. Let the world be quiet for a while.”
