Sebring Silver 1963 Corvette Z06/N03 Split Window Coupe. A new RPO, the Z06 equipment group was aimed at those serious Corvette pilots who planned to race the car, and specifically those serious enough about their intentions to come up with the option package’s initial $1,800 asking price (though several months into the model year the price went down as some of the Z06 equipment became standalone options).
Leading off the Z06 package was a fuel-injected version of the 327 CI small-block V-8, rated at 360 HP and 352 lb-ft of torque. The engine was joined to a 4-speed manual transmission and a Positraction rear end, which in this car sports 4.56 gears. The chassis was upgraded with heavy-duty suspension components, and special attention was paid to the brakes, with a twin-circuit master cylinder, drums that were larger than standard, sintered-metallic brake linings and fins (and holes) to help cool the binders under competition conditions.
A special 36.5-gallon fiberglass fuel tank was also installed to reduce the need for fueling stops during endurance events. That fuel tank, which had its own RPO number, N03, was among the pieces of equipment that was cut out of the Z06 package to reduce its cost. It was still available as an option, and just 63 cars were so-equipped, adding to this Corvette’s rarity. Also rare is the fact that this Z06 still has its original, matching-numbers Fuelie V-8. This Corvette underwent a thorough restoration by the Naber Brothers, which was completed in 2015. They finished the car in its correct Sebring Silver with a black interior, and their exacting restoration standards helped it earn Bloomington Gold certification and an NCRS Top Flight award. www.powerpacknation.com
