18362 @18068 To the woman who posted about the lyric in The Pretty Reckless’ “Oh My God” that goes “Oh my god, wish I was black/wish I had soul when my music attacked”… Taylor Momsen has gone on record as saying that she doesn’t like telling people what the band’s songs are about, because she prefers to have fans make their own interpretations. That being said, you know this is hard rock, right? The genre is: a) often made with the intention to shock people, and b) a descendant of blues music and other African-American musical traditions. Not to mention, the song immediately following “Oh My God” on the album is “Take Me Down,” a song “inspired” by the tale of blues legend Robert Johnson going down to the crossroads and meeting the devil to sell his soul for talent. The way I see it, the band is just embracing their influences while still maintaining their trademark level of shock. I can understand why you feel that way about the lyric, and I won’t say you’re wrong, but I feel there’s more to it than that
