Here are some photos of a Viking army painted by my lifelong friend, Thomas M, for my father Serge, the founder of the 3R!
This is quite a substantial force, consisting of 58 bases/units. Considering that Thomas had already painted around 70 units for his own army â Vikings supported by an Irish allied contingent â he was turning out hundreds of Viking and allied warriors at a truly industrial pace over the course of several months. I thought it was only fair to do justice to some of his work by sharing a few photos of the army he eventually sold to my dad!
As for me, I was in charge of the basing. To achieve this, I used a filler paste with a fairly specific consistency, mixed with a very light grey tint. Once the miniatures are glued in place, I apply the paste to the bases row by row: I cover a completed rank, then glue each miniature of the next rank while working the paste around their feet. Before the paste dries, I add various scenic elements to the base, such as static grass tufts and other similar details. It usually takes me around 15â20 minutes to base a standard unit of eight figures, and even less for skirmisher or general bases.
You'll find a bit of everything in this army...
