Spouse reaction to 15×3
So, the Very Patient Spouse woke up this morning and he was angry. In the car he laughed and said, "I had a dream last night about YOUR SHOW. YOUR THING kept me from falling asleep and then I dream't about it." Apparently, he found THAT Dean & Cas scene bothersome enough to dream about. He didn't say what the dream was, other than he "wanted to hug everyone".
I asked what about that scene bothered him and he answered, "the words sounded like Dean, but they read like John Winchester level bullshit". Apparently "It was contrived" and there "weren't enough words" so his subconscious felt compelled to make up the rest.
I call him the Very Patient Spouse because he humors me about all things Supernatural, especially my melodramatic fanfic that he proof reads for me. It's telling that a show that he puts up with just because I like it so much effected him in that way. The relationships seem real enough to bother even casual viewers when things go really wrong.
From a casual viewer, it wasn't Dean that said that awful thing to Cas, it was John. "That's not Dean. Dean's angry sometimes, even violent, but he's not just an asshole. He drives people away, but not like that."
So, I ask the Very Patient Spouse what he would fix about that scene: "There is no walking back those words, they're unforgivable, but he needs to try. Dean needs to chase after Cas and beg, plead, grovel on his knees to be forgiven. If that were me and you and I'd said something like that, I would spend the rest of my life trying to make it right."
Oh? I asked him how he saw that scene because the show doesn't consider them a couple. Maybe Cas meant one thing and Dean was saying something else.
"Bullshit! That was a break up!" Paraphrased: I don't care who you are or what you want to see from that scene, that was a full on, long term relationship break up because John Winchester didn't teach his kids to use their words. Just a few minutes ago he texted that, "I'm genuinely bothered by your romantically dramatic power couple parting bitterly when they just could have kissed and made up!" Apparently, that scene was enough to make him forget that he is especially Very Patient about my Destiel leanings.
If HE can see it, feel it, and believe it, anyone can. What makes it more canon than that?
TL;DR: Even the most casual of viewers saw what that scene as romantic and the break up bothers them.
