(idk if anyone has ever asked this question)
What psychological reaction do you think btd/btd2/tpof characters will have when kidnapped, and what will they do?
What if they know that they will surely die?
Strade- Strade’s biggest fear is being trapped and physically restrained— yes, he’s a huge hypocrite. He would be furious and also afraid. He’ll yell and try to fight back as much as possible (similarly to the couch scene in YKMET, although if you’ve moved him somewhere more permanent and he realizes you intend to keep him there, he’ll be a lot more mad).
Despite Strade being Strade, knowing he’s about to die does make him afraid just like any other person, which we also see in YKMET.
Ren- Ren is the most obvious, because he is kidnapped in the first game/YKMET. After Strade’s death, we see a good glimpse of this in BTD2, when the player switches roles and collars Ren instead. He’s quick to be submissive once he’s realized he’s overpowered/can’t win, but more out of self preservation than anything else. It’s clear he never truly forgot that mentality, even without Strade there to enforce it.
If he knew he was absolutely going to die, it would also be much like the endings in BTD2 where MC tortured him— initial panic, begging and crying, and eventually a dull acceptance. He’s been through too much for denial.
Lawrence- Lawrence would freak out being kidnapped. Canonically he’d panic hard in this situation. As Gato has said in the past, with someone like Strade who tends to be careless sometimes, Lawrence would snap and overpower him. But with Derek and the desert crew for example, the situation would probably get the best of him first. Either way, He would panic, although that panic could come in fighting back or in silent dissociative thought.
If he felt he was going to be killed, he would probably still freak out, which is only natural for someone despite him being kind of hypocritical in that regard. However, if he feels like the death will be easy (relatively painless or quick) he might accept it more easily, because he’ll get to see the river again. This is my general answer, but I’d honestly have to write a whole scene going through his thoughts to explain exactly how he’d feel.
Sano- Sano has been kidnapped and tortured for information before. He’s surprisingly stoic, and would keep his even demeanor as much as possible.
If he felt he was going to die, I think he would try to bargain with the person or make a deal somehow (if breaking out is absolutely not happening). He knows begging is useless. Or, if the opportunity presents itself, he’ll try to coerce them into coming closer so he can bite and kill them.
Akira- has also been in similar situations, and his reaction is typically taunting/swearing at them or simply refusing to talk. Although, Akira is a fighter— any chance he gets, he’ll try to break away from them and escape. They better have good security measures, because if he does get free, he will kill them.
If somehow that doesn’t work, and he knows he’s going to die, it could go two ways. If it’s relatively soon, he’ll definitely go down kicking, and try to gain the upper hand regardless of how much he knows it’s over. But if he’s been there a really long time, or he’s starting to get hopeless, I think he might just accept it.
Vincent- Vincent would get very violent in both of these scenarios. He already has anger problems, and this might be the last straw. Honestly I’m not sure a kidnapper (unless it’s a whole team who has extremely strong equipment) can hold him when he transforms. He’ll be extremely pissed and attempt to maul them to death. Even if he knows he’s might die, he’ll do as much damage as he can even until the last moment.
Cain- It’s incredibly hard to kidnap Cain due to his power, but if it happened, he’d clearly be very upset. I think he has a certain amount of outward patience (he’s really mad about it, but he’s not going to give you the satisfaction of watching him yell and complain) so he for the most part remains silent unless asking a brief question or maybe answering something. He spends time mentally trying to figure out the person’s (or angel/demon’s, because a human clearly can hold him) motives, and plotting how he can catch them at a point of weakness.
If he felt he was about to die, I think he would be in denial of it actually happening. He knows he’s powerful, and he’s been through a lot throughout his life, so he kind of expects himself to live through anything. And he might be right, I don’t think ‘killing him’ will permanently kill him like it would a human— he’s a fallen angel.
Rire- very similar to Cain, however if someone manages to capture him (which is nearly impossible, he’s incredibly powerful) he’ll let a bit more rage show through. He’s clearly furious with his opponent. He’s constantly searching for any loopholes, anything his captor missed, that might give him a chance to gain the upper hand again.
If he’s felt felt he was going to die (which is even more unlikely than with Cain— he’s an extremely powerful demon, I don’t think he can simply be killed) he would be angry the entire time. He’ll never stoop to begging from someone he hates so much; he won’t give them the satisfaction.
Derek- Derek would be an awful captive. I mean, he’ll never stop shouting. He’s entirely pissed at the kidnapper, and for the first few days, he’ll constantly yell and swear and threaten them. He’ll also threaten them with his economic status and his father, claiming that people will notice if he goes missing and will find him. He’s very.. well, obstreperous, right? It’s also a way to hide his fear, because he is afraid, but won’t show it.
I think even if he were about to die, and was weak, he’d keep up the defiance. He’s got a lot of fight in him at least.
Celia- Celia would be extremely mad, but she wouldn’t try and fight her way out to begin with. Shes much more calculating than that. Once she’s tried and failed at bribery (unless the person falls for that), she’ll try to find a way to break free somehow. However, if she’s unable to get any kind of leverage, she could easily start to go crazy. Celia thrives on having plans and staying one step ahead, so being this far behind really messes with her.
Knowing she was going to die would probably bring out a little more fight in her. If she’s going to die, why hold back? Primarily verbally, since she’s probably restrained, and I’d say she has the most gruesome and cutting insults for the kidnapper out of anyone here.
Mason- if somehow, some way, someone was able to kidnap Mason, he’d be wildly impressed. Mad, a little, because besting him in the woods is one thing, but taking him away is a major inconvenience. Still, he’d be pretty surprised.
If he were about to die, it would be much like in game. He’ll absolutely fight if he can, but if not, you won, and deep down he can respect that.
