Louis' interview for CNN Chile - 02.10
El cantante británico lanzó “Lemonade”, el primer adelanto de su próximo trabajo discográfico, y confirmó que How Did I Get Here? se estrena
"How Did We Get Here?": The new album that could bring Louis Tomlinson back to Latin America
The British singer released "Lemonade", the first advance of his next album, and confirmed that How Did I Get Here? It will premiere on January 23, 2026. In a conference with Latin media in which CNN Chile participated, Tomlinson spoke about the creative impact that his time in Costa Rica had on the composition of the album and reaffirmed his close connection with Latin American audiences.
Louis Tomlinson released Lemonade, the first advance of his third studio album, How Did I Get Here?, which is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026.
"I summarize it as the album that I always deserved to make," said the 33-year-old Briton about this new musical stage. "My bread and butter is honesty. I continue to learn and improve as a singer and songwriter. For the first time, I allow myself to be the artist I have always wanted to be."
With Lemonade, the former One Direction bets on a brighter palette: guitars with a funk pulse, bright keyboards and organic percussion.
All of them, details that are in line with an intention that he himself defined as "big and fun" for the inaugural single of a new phase. "He has an instant and natural personality. In the end, it turned out to be the perfect way to start this chapter," he added.
The inspiration behind the creation of How Did I Get Here?
Part of the foundation that shaped their upcoming full-length release was three weeks of sessions in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.
In the press round with media in the region, CNN Chile asked him about the influence of the environment on the gestation of the album, in which he worked with his main collaborator and co-producer, Nico Rebscher.
CNN Chile: You wrote part of this album during a three-week stay in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. How did that environment influence your creativity? For example, in decisions such as tempo, guitar sounds or vocal takes. How did it inspire you?
Louis Tomlinson: "I would say ... When I was a kid, in the place where I grew up, you don't take this kind of thing very seriously. You don't think about them much. Maybe you think that all that is half hippie, cheap, that it doesn't make much sense. But the idea of fully immersing yourself in the concept of an album... It's just that, for me, this album was always going to have a sense of freedom, and I always dreamed of doing it somewhere tropical. The idea of really pushing the limits, you know what I mean? When it comes to creating something, you obviously extract things from somewhere. And if you give yourself the right context... Surrounding yourself with a paradise and such a beautiful aesthetic is a super safe bet. It can only benefit how you feel. And when the weather is beautiful, as it was there, that is also beneficial. I think the effect of all that, on the subconscious itself, is that it allows you to create from a much happier and freer place."
On Wednesday, the singer also revealed that he will embark on a new world tour with confirmed performances in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, England, Italy and Spain, among other countries.
And although upcoming dates in Latin America have not yet been announced, although it is not ruled out that concerts will be added in the future.
"They know I'll be there (...). It's a really important part of the world for me. I've only had incredible experiences from that side of the world," he said.
In 2024, during an exclusive interview with CNN Chile, the singer had already mentioned his intense connection with the regional public.
"When you look at the audience, it's not like there's a small group here having a good time, another small group over there... It's all of them. Everyone is enjoying themselves. And I love that. I love that there's not a single person standing there with their arms crossed. Everyone is having a good time," he explained.
Tomlinson landed in Chile for the first time with his solo proposal in 2022, with multiple sold-out dates at the Movistar Arena. Two years later, he performed at the Bicentennial Stadium in La Florida.
