Re-watching TNG's Yesterday's Enterprise and it occurred to me that Lower Decks (s5 ep9) really missed out on having an alt universe Tasha Yar on board.

And then I had a revelation™.

Tasha Yar.

Beckett Mariner.

Mariner makes a meta joke about Tasha dying twice in TNG and it turns into a recurring "we must protect Tasha!" gag. Tasha is weirded out because 1)please stop talking about me dying I'm getting uncomfortable and 2)actually it's MY job to protect YOU.

They end up saving each other's lives.
