So, to go along with this post, I'll write out a more detailed recount of the headcanon I've settled on for Quiet's life before she became Quiet.
Her mother died when she was very young, and Quiet doesn't remember what she looks like anymore. As a result, her father raised her to be strong and independent hoping that it would prevent her from dying or being hurt by anyone in his lifetime. He didn't want to lose another of his girls.
Quiet spend most of her childhood in trouble for bullying other students either verbally or physically, and eventually she was sent to a reform school / boot camp in late middle school where she got her first taste of life as a soldier. She spent 2 years there, then went back to a public high school and graduated with fairly high grades. She wasn't the most popular, but she did have a few friends and a few... intimate partners. Nothing meaningful, though.
After she graduated, Quiet did the only thing that made sense to her and signed up for the army. It was tough getting in as a girl, but they couldn't very well turn down someone with skill and natural talent like her. She served for 4 years, first as a regular foot soldier, then as part of a more elite team that handled delicate assassinations. Her father died, and Quiet moved up in the ranks again as a solo operative, and it was then that XOF found and recruited her. She continued to work alone for a few years before the events of MGSV:TPP. This puts her between 25 and 27 years old and brings us to the present!
I don't have a headcanon for which country she's from, but I will say that she knows her name, she just refuses to use it because the person she was before the experiments that fused her with the One that Covers is dead. She will never use that name. She will be Quiet, and if she ever develops to the point where she feels ready to become someone else, she'll choose a new name.

I’ll add this to a page later on because it’s important, but I just wanna throw out my explanation for something.
At the end, just before she leaves Snake she has to speak English. We know the vocal cord parasites activate when the host speaks the target language, so why would Quiet speak English if it would kill her and Snake? Well, she knew Snake had access to Wolbachia so he’d be able to at least cure himself that way, and she also knew he didn’t talk very often anyway. But what about herself?
Well! She’s immune to any damage the vocal cord parasites may cause. She’s a host, but she’s already living in symbiosis with the parasites. So while Quiet is still able to transfer the parasite to others, they won’t have any permanent or long-lasting effect on her own health.
