Terms that aren't CDD exclusive:
Part: this term is used in parts work/internal family systems therapy ANP/EP/mixed part: this one might surprise you, but these are also used to refer to parts in PTSD, CPTSD, BPD, etc. However, these shouldn't be used to refer to non-CDD systems without disorders involving structural dissociation. Headmate: this term was coined to be inclusive of all systems Plural: this term, when used to refer to systems, was intended to be inclusive of all systems.
Terms that are CDD exclusive:
Polyfragmented: this term is used to refer to disordered systems with a complex structure. It comes from medical literature describing CDDs. Non-CDD systems can call themselves polyplural etc.
Terms that are debated:
Alter: this one also comes from medical literature describing CDDs. The argument that non-CDD systems can use the term 'alter' to my understanding is that CDD alters are similar enough to non-CDD headmates that they can share terms. I disagree with that, yet this term is still debated. Psychiatric role terms (persecutor, internal self helper, etc.): these terms may be useful to non-CDD systems, and I believe the actual functions of headmates may be similar across the lines of disorders. I don't entirely see the point in coining non-CDD alternatives to these.
