𝐓𝐡𝐞  𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧  𝐨𝐟  𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬  𝐢𝐬  𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞  𝐚𝐧𝐝  𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧,   as  inert  and  far-removed  as  a  distant  planet  or  a  body  in  a  lake,  stale-still.   So  why — ? Qrow  enters  with  his  flock,  and  the  doctor  (obeying  some  dark,  unknowable  impulse)  hones  her  focus  almost  solely  on  the  girl.   Angel-faced,  lovely,  God-eyed.   Scrappy  like  a  field  still  growing.   A  girl  come  from  far  away;  a  shift  in  the  roses.   . . . But  only  that.   Only  a  girl,  only  a  shift.   She  has  not  yet  changed. 𝖶𝗁𝗒  𝖽𝗈𝖾𝗌  𝗍𝗁𝖾  𝗎𝗇𝗂𝗏𝖾𝗋𝗌𝖾  𝗂𝗇𝗌𝗂𝗌𝗍  𝗈𝗇  𝗉𝗋𝖾𝗌𝖾𝗇𝗍𝗂𝗇𝗀  𝗆𝖾  𝗐𝗂𝗍𝗁  𝗌𝗎𝖼𝗁  𝗁𝖺𝗅𝖿-𝖾𝖿𝖿𝗈𝗋𝗍𝗌,  𝗎𝗇𝖿𝗂𝗇𝗂𝗌𝗁𝖾𝖽  𝖾𝗇𝖽𝖾𝖺𝗏𝗈𝗋𝗌?   𝖬𝗒  𝖽𝗋𝖾𝖺𝗆𝗌  𝖼𝗈𝗎𝗅𝖽  𝗁𝗎𝗇𝗍  𝗒𝗈𝗎𝗋𝗌,  𝗐𝗈𝗎𝗅𝖽  𝖾𝖺𝗍  𝗍𝗁𝖾𝗆  𝗅𝗂𝗄𝖾  𝖿𝖺𝗍  𝗋𝖺𝖻𝖻𝗂𝗍𝗌.

The  full  moon   ( which  is  not  really  full,  but  fragmented )   hangs  overhead.   Helene  observes  it  from  her  place  within  Salem's  castle   ( which  is  really  an  indiscreet,  pretentious,  and  awkward  way  of  compensating  for  her  own  overgrown  longing )   and  does  not  blink.   The  splintered  moonlight  refracts  in  delicate,  twinkling  flashes  against  the  windowpane  as  if  to  compensate  for  the  sky's  lack  of  stars.   Helene  continues  to  observe,  and  silently  wonders  if  sadness  and  starvation  are  one  and  the  same.   Are  both  a  kind  of  hunger? The  child  enters.   Well,  one  of  them,  anyway.   Helene's  eyes  dart  to  possess  them.   She  meets  their  stare,  which  is  full  of  exhaustion  and  catastrophe,  full  of  reflections  like  the  windowpane.   Were  they,  like  the  windowglass,  compensating  for  a  sort  of  absence?   Helene  makes  her  mouth  smile  in  spite  of  and  because  of  the  wretched  atmosphere.
