Disney had pulled Kimmel's show from ABC after Trump's FCC head threatened legal action. The original excuse was Kimmel's comments about the Kirk shooting, but Trump made clear days later that he believed that networks who "give [him] bad publicity" should have their licenses "taken away". This government pressure (aka "jawboning") was a clear violation of the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution, but Disney was reluctant to stand up to the Trump administration and only did so after a large boycott campaign of folks canceling their Disney+ subscriptions and Disney Parks trips.

Stephen Colbert just had a clap back at Donald Trump’s silencing of Jimmy Kimmel
Per GLAAD, the FCC is accepting public comments until May 22nd on their decision whether or not to mark LGBT stories with a content label.
In a Public Notice released on April 22, 2026, the FCC is asking Americans to submit comments about whether the TV Oversight Management Board (TVOMB) should create new TV ratings to alert viewers to “transgender and gender non-binary programming” and “the discussion or promotion of gender identity themes.”
