[sms; Parker] tell me I didn't ruin your life
You have a text from Tony.
Peter’s not sure when Karen switched from the formal Tony Stark to just Tony, but he suspects it has something to do with Peter no longer calling him Mr Stark. She’s taking her cues from him apparently, which is probably a terrible idea.
Somehow, he thinks Friday would give him the AI equivalent of the stink eye for being a bad influence. Anyway, not the point. Peter swings up to the first ledge he finds and checks his phone.
[text from; Mr Stark] tell me I didn’t ruin your life
“What?”
It says—
“No, I know what it says. But why’s he saying that?”
I don’t know. Would you like to call him?
“Yeah—no, no, no, wait, he might be busy.” Peter bites his lip, keeping half an ear on the sounds of traffic for anything amiss, “Hey, Karen. Do you think he’ll be at the compound right now?”
I don’t have access to Tony’s schedule. But that’s where the message originated from. Would you like me to take you there?
Is it just him, or does Karen sound a little too knowing? Maybe even a little smug? He’s not that predictable, is he? Doesn’t matter. It’s not like she guessed wrong.
“Please! As fast as you can.” Peter pockets his phone, and dives off the roof, following the path Karen has set up for him. He’ll just have to hijack the top of a truck for a little bit.
Peter? Shouldn’t you text Tony back?
Man, he’s gotta have the nosiest AI in the world.
“Yeah, yeah, hold on.” Peter lands on the back of his ride as carefully as he can, and when the truck doesn’t slow down or veer from its trajectory, he takes out his phone. He’s not about to dictate a message to Karen, okay? He’d like the illusion of privacy, at least.
[text; Mr Stark] not even a little [text; Mr Stark] you made it a million times better
That’s really sweet.
“Shut up, Karen.”
AIs shouldn’t laugh. Is that a thing they do? Because Karen always sounds like she’s quietly laughing at him. Peter blushes bright red, and sits sullenly on the truck, willing it to drive faster towards Upstate so he can talk to Tony in person.
