sweaty hands, the kind of clammy that makes you embarrassed. not eating breakfast. snapping quills out of frustration. not talking to anyone for a week straight during owls. large eye bags from too many all-nighters. the smell of flowers in letters from back home. insecurity like an extra layer. hiding your grades from your housemates. missed hogsmeade trips. cutting your hair off with scissors spontaneously in the middle of the night. mismatched socks. you’ve got a secret you’re too afraid to tell: you’re on the way to repeating this year all over again if you can’t pull yourself together.

benjamin dunstan & helen dawlish → personally, you hadn’t really liked helen at first, but that was mostly because they exuded energy of having their life together and you were constantly trying to hang onto yours by the tips of your fingers. you warmed up to them quickly enough though, with benji’s encouragement, and they’re the only two that can really calm you down when you need it. every time you’re slipping, they’re there to pull you back up -- but it’s why you’re too embarrassed to tell them you’re failing, when they’ve put so much effort in keeping you upright.

alistair thaxted → you’d snapped at them once during owls, in a frantic, panicked mess. in truth, you can’t really remember the months surrounding owls, so it probably wasn’t over anything personal until you made it personal. you had screamed at them about not everything being easy for everyone and how it wasn’t really fair, and benji was the one who had to drag you away to calm you down. it wasn’t in-character for you to do such a thing, especially in front of so many people, and you’re so embarrassed by it that you try and be extra nice to them ever since. even if you do think some of the stuff you said was true.
