Maximus' bad blood Ă— SOLO
Maximus had been spending the day with Martie when the hunters had attacked. Saying he was surprised to not have a blackout would've been a big understatement. What the better hadn't known, was that withhe temporary implant in his ear (that he couldn't see nor feel), the Alpha could wake him up at any time, but since he was already downtown... there was no reason to do it. He would fight, his loyalty to the city was too great to ignore what was happening. Of course while not awakened, his priority was the omega with him. He'd called Ewan to make sure the Scottish man was okay and to tell him not to do anything crazy.
Eventually, getting out of harm with the woman running at his side had been hard, so Max had made her climb on his back. He'd saved a few people along the way, without realizing that when he fought off hunters or helped someone else, he'd often awakened for a couple minutes (just for the time his hidden skills were needed). There wasn't much difference to spot since he didn't have much time to talk (which was usually the big give away when he was like that). So at first, they went to Martie's apartment because it was the closest after he'd gotten shot in the leg.
The omega had been so brave, using the tweezer of her first aid kit to remove the bullet laced with vervain and wolfsbane (which had been why he wasn't able to heal). She'd cleaned it up and it had healed almost right away. There was too much activity happening outside so they had stayed inside for a while. Obviously, he-d continued to check with Ewan to make sure the omega was still safe. They had eventually been able to go out to escape the next night on the 9th. Once again, the beta couldn't explain how he knew some hunters had magic, but mostly how to make the difference between regular ones, and the powered up ones.
But avoiding them had proven to be complicated, though not impossible for someone his age. All they needed was a distraction and they would be easy to kill, they were still humans after all. The whole time, he'd made sure Martie wasn't hurt. They made it to the middle of the West Side while it was still dark in the early morning on the 10th. Things had seemed calmer, but he felt it that something was wrong and told Martie to really hold on to him tight. Seconds later, they'd both seen things that looked like cracks of light appearing all over (some in the middle of the air, others on the pavement or a wall). And then chaos followed.
When the street cracked and a monster came out (like it'd been stuck underneath), Maximus knew why everyone had suddenly been screaming.
"Do not let go." He'd ordered the omega on his back then attacked the demon before it had time to fully get out of the whole it was stuck in. Now awakened, Maximus knew he'd never faced anything like that, never that big, nor strong, but he was still able to kill it. But they were coming out of everywhere and he knew fighting them all would be impossible. His mission was to save as many people as he could without getting killed himself.
He backed into an alleyway to avoid one of the creature that seem to be controlling fire. He felt Martie's fear, but she kept holding on to him strongly. The assassin went to sleep again since he wasn't needed while no combat occured. Though, when Maximus turned his head to check if the omega was ready for his next run and to reassure her, she wasn't there, it was like she had disappeared out of thin air. The beta panicked and his panic, didn't see the tiny crack buried underneath garbage bags. He couldn't call out to her, fearing that he'd bring too much attention to himself.
But then another demon appeared, making the assassin awaken again, and this time, without Martie to make him come back, Maximus wasn't going to come back until this was over.
