The last time she’d woken up in a hospital, she’d be very, very alone. Scared and stuck in this place where nothing made sense. And, logically, she’d known that Luke had been right to take her to the ER, but the fear had gripped her heart in a vice. A tension that finally broke when she woke up and he was still there.
Maybe it was the drugs or the head injury, but Jessica couldn’t hold back the sob. It rattled her bones. Angrily, she wiped tears from her eyes and tried not to look at him for too long.
“You gonna break me out of this hellhole?”
