I'm strongly considering adding the 'Oro gives Sasuke a second arm' thing to my canon because I hate the thought of Sasuke refusing to regain that arm for the sake of 'atonement'.
Yes, what bothers me is the thought that Sasuke never gets the arm back because he thinks he deserves permanently being handicapped for the wrongs he committed in the past (AT 12-17 YEARS OLD). I used to be okay with it because I could turn it into "That used to be the case, but now I've just gotten used to it. And it's not like I need it. I'm good as is. It's a matter of pride."Â
But the Boruto anime kinda ruined that mindset for me because they make Sasuke talk of atonement even when he has Sarada. I don't want to promote that mindset, even if it is just through Sasuke not getting the second arm.Â
I used to not care about Orochimaru and completely ignored his presence post-war, but he IS there, and he IS loyal(?) to Sasuke, so it would make sense that he could get involved in such a way. It also allows me to say "But Sasuke refused the arm because of the Senju cells. There's no telling what would happen to Sasuke's eyes if those cells became part of his body. Not willing to take that risk."Â
Sasuke doesn't need to atone any more than Konoha needs to atone. I don't see why Sasuke would need to go to such lengths while Konoha (and it's representatives) pat themselves on the back for getting Sasuke under their control again.
Someone could nudge Sasuke toward getting the arm back. Could be Naruto, Sakura, Orochimaru himself. Could also be Kakashi. Sasuke has a lot of bonds that he cherishes now, at last, and people willing to support him because they want him to strive and be happy.
I think this would happen around the time he is 20 years old. He would have lived without a second arm for about 3 years. This time allows him to grow as a person and tackle his mental health issues; learn to be happy again.
And also, consider this: Sasuke, having two arms now, but still being fully capable of performing one-handed hand signs, utilizing his acquired skills in battle. In the end, he didn't grow weaker by losing his arm and having his worldview shattered, but stronger. More adaptable. More inventive.

TLDR; At 20 years old, Sasuke gets a new arm surgically attached by Orochimaru. He refused the Zetsu arm because of the Senju cells within it. Being an Uchiha, this is a risk he isnât willing to take. Further, he thinks of the sacrifice of not regaining his arm as a means of atonement at first but grows out of this mindset eventually, hence his change of mind.

Fordâs nurses his ankle from where he is sat on the ground. His boot sits besides him- he had to remove the footwear in order to get a better look at the damage. His hair is a mess and his lab coat is torn.
Heâs not sure whether he is lucky that the incident happened so close to Valâs place or whether heâd rather deal with this solo-...it wouldnât be the first time that heâs had to power through pain in order to find a safe spot to patch himself up and rest a few hours...or days.... but this isnât the multiverse- he has to keep reminding himself of that.
He hisses in pain- before looking up to her- she must have heard him cry out in pain- or heard the beast as it vacated- maybe both- âI was-â He begins but quickly remembers that she might not know about Gravity Fallâs supernatural...Should he trust her with what heâs been doing? He catches a glimpse of her eyes- surely by now sheâd figured out that there is something going on with Stanford Filbrick Pines and it isnât that he is a clock fanatic.- Itâs probably just as well- as he is certain that there is also something strange going on with her. âIâve..Itâs my ankle....I think itâs broken.â
His legs propel him as fast they can. He hadnât expected this anomaly to be quite this big. He heard rumours that it was a beast. But this was perhaps the most sizeable and vicious giant heâd ever seen.

Was Bill actually trying to protect him? Heâd only asked the demon to join him so he could keep an eye on him (he still had difficulty trusting him), he never would have expected him to do this!!!

Ford almost shrieks- his hand moving quicker than ever before to bat his brotherâs away from the object. His breath is caught in his throat until his brotherâs sticky fingers are far away from his invention. For a moment-relief washes over his face.
But itâs soon replaced with a stern stare.
âStanley!â He reprimands. âWhat did I just say?!â There is disbelief in his voice- though, really, he should have known Stan wouldnât listen to him. Even when they were kids- his brother just couldnât help but do the exact opposite of what Ford would ask of him.- Once he almost put a fork in a plug socket! âDo you know how dangerous that thing is?â This is rhetorical more than anything else. âIt would have blown your hand clean off.â
âI picked it up from dimension E-92, to ward off pick pockets.â
An exasperated sigh escapes him- a six fingered hand moves to pinch the bridge of his nose...Yes- he is trying to be a better brother to Stan- but he had to let him know the consequences of his actions- and if that meant being assertive- well- then it was for Stanâs own good.Â
He picks it up- knowing how to handle the item. He drops it into Stanâs hand (after showing him the correct way to hold it). âThe trick is to hold it at each corner. Usually pick pockets are not so careful. Wanting to get in and out as quick as possible.â Though he suspects that Stan would know a thing or two about that.
