Newly dragged from Hell, Dean is different. Not only from his human self, but also from the being he became in the Pit. All these versions of him crave Sam's attention and devotion, they're only impeded by different levels of inhibitions.

After many hours spent writing and editing and debating whether to post the first chapter before the work was 100% finished, here is the first chapter of 'bridling chaos'! Stiles nodded faintly, but his gaze drifted. Away from Derek’s and over his shoulder, to try to see where the trap held him fast. Derek tightened his hold on Stiles’ face, and Stiles blinked. He reached up and wrapped his trembling hand around Derek’s wrist.

“Don’t look at it,” Derek said. “Keep your eyes on me.”

Stiles nodded again. “Yeah, okay.”

Then the crossbow cocked, the spring clicking into place.

But by the time either of them registered the sound, it was already too late.

Because Derek had been focused on Stiles.

But no one has actually hired Stiles to look into this particular case. It’s pure professional curiosity on his part. Rogue armies of wolves taking out one of the strongest hunter factions – it made him itch with the need to know more, to help.

“Try to stay out of this one,” Erica says, as she locks the door behind them. “It’s too dangerous. Your dad would kill me if anything happened to you.”

Stiles grins. “Nothing’s gonna happen to me, not with you watching my back.”

He can see Boyd waiting in the patrol car, face carefully angled away, so he can pretend he doesn’t see Erica technically breaking the law. Stiles isn’t too worried about Boyd turning them in – Boyd would do just about anything for Erica, though she doesn’t know it.

She’ll figure it out one day. Until that day, Boyd was willing to wait patiently, and so was Stiles, because he was totally going to be Best Man at that wedding.

“Stay safe,” she says, and there’s tension around her eyes and her mouth that he doesn’t usually see. “There’s something off about this one.”

He knows Derek has inherent talent, he knows he has inherent talent, knows objectively they should complement each other well but this- this is unlike anything else Stiles has ever experienced.

As the music fades out they’re practically toe to toe and Stiles is breathing heavily despite not exerting himself that much. Derek’s eyes are blazing when they finally come to a standstill and there’s this wide-eyed look of wonder on his face.

Stiles forces himself to swallow hard before reminding himself to smile. “How did that feel?” he whispers, it feels like a whispering kind of moment.

“That was…” Derek trails away, eyes going unfocused before he blinks and locks his gaze with Stiles’ again. “It’s never felt like that before,” he whispers back.
