on a more serious note though. I think we as writers, at least on tumblr, shy away from heavier topics too much. it’s like we always have this pressure to water down our characters/interpretations for fear of retaliation or being idk judged. let me talk about a prime example: jealousy.
jealousy is ugly. it’s toxic. it’s also an incredibly normal part of the human condition. why does your character feel that way? what triggered it, what’s the response? these very real aspects of the complicated nature of human relationships are excellent spice and can lead to interesting situations and consequences.
I get it though. you don’t want to step on toes or make anyone feel uncomfortable. but there’s a BIG difference between butting into an rp you’re not involved with to make your muse jealous (to stir up shipping drama), and writing about it in a thread between just you and your partner.
point being. narrative is more interesting with conflict, and rp doesn’t have to be one dimensional to fit into some weird box where you try to please everyone. don’t ever water down your character, at least with me. I want to see the beautiful and the ugly, because that’s what makes them interesting.
