           there’s a moon, definitely trying to subtly creep his way into denver’s space without actively making it known that he’s being invasive. “new kids are settling in really well. no problems so far.” 

                 they don’t have a lot of quiet moments. between the kids and authorities coming after them, quiet is rare. but, they do manage sometimes, and occasionally moon even manages to find the quiet moments without paperwork and numbers and the ever-present worry about paying a bill or finding someplace for the new kids to sleep. it’s still there, but not the focus of conversation and neither of them are pouring over papers or folders. 

          his mind must be wandering, and his face must show it, because a hand grips his chin from the blue, making pale eyes jump up to denver’s face, brows lifting at him. “did you say something?” his head tips a little, shoulders rolling to straighten a little. “i was just thinkin’, we don’t get a lot of downtime like this. and, no, don’t worry, i won’t hurt myself by overworking myself. no worry about this old noggin.” knuckles rap against the side of his head, though he doesn’t move his jaw from the grip. it’s nice. comfortable, even if he’s pretty sure it only happened because he had the resting expression of someone debating murder. 

                a sound escapes him, desperate and pained as his whole body shudders. it’s nearly a howl, arching forward as his fingers turn to claws in the direct beneath them. a snarl passes his lips, fangs showing briefly before the pain wracks through his body again and his stomach rolls. he’s not sure what the group had shot him with, but it’s burning through his body like a mother fucker and he’s losing anything he has in his stomach. 

            it’s something, at least, that he can focus on dakota’s voice to hold on to. she’s not denver, but they’re related and moon’s wolf associates them together. enough that he can fight the shift that wants to rip his skin in favour of fur and fangs. except, he kind of wants to cry now, broad shoulders heaving as he rolls to his side to avoid his own sick. “did we get the kids out?” his voice is weak, swallowing hard as he looks to her, gaze wavering. “it was... it didn’t look good, but i tried. i tried to draw fire and i think i distracted them, but i didn’t see where they went.” 

“no can do, mini prin’ces. i told you ma’ i’d take care of you.” that’s exactly what moon plans to do. he’s not sure what he did to deserve that kind of trust from clarke, or if it’s anything more than just desperation in the moment, but he plans to follow through with that. he catches the little girls shoulders, blue eyes wide as unorganized curls hang in his face. “please, little one. if you can behave, i’ll let you ride a moose someday.”
