It didn’t change their life really now did it? Edward had slid an engagement ring on Ilona’s finger, he had her father’s blessing, and the bureaucratic matters were all up to his father the King and his diplomats or whatever to solve. Of course through private letters and messengers Edward went through debates with both the King and Queen but he wouldn’t yield to any threats or excuses, telling his parents to shove them up their rear if they so pleased. Meanwhile his presence with the woman was now public, locally at the very least. First it was thought she was a mere public mistress but the tone changed once a joke was told in public and Edward, holding the man by his shirt ready to choke him, promised to kill the man if he would ever again speak foul of Ilona, his wife to be. Life was merry and his parents ceased harassing him, instead his mother expressed joy (believing this would be the end of him having lovers and indecent relationships) and of course it meant Edward would have legitimate children before he would turn thirty.
Life was back to normal per say, except Edward’s greatest joy was his wife, not trouble, gambling, or drinking (although he did practice some of it with his bride). It was funny really but being crown prince no longer felt such a burden or curse, instead he’d nearly forgotten about it especially when he was in his woman’s arms.
The completely secret life was over. The oldest prince had been found to have been with a common woman. They’d been spotted together in public for the first time taking a small vacation which also included the crown prince’s tour of the commonwealth. The woman had thought to be of new staff but mistakenly Edward had shared a tender moment on a terrace of the house he was staying in. It didn’t help the security tried to go after the reporters. It may have been half intentional on Edward’s part, having hidden Ilona was difficult but his family already knew and there was little to discuss further. The royal playboy was in love. Abdication had been brought up everywhere however no one had reached prince Edward to comment on it, probably because he knew he couldn’t make such a decision yet even though he was very certain he would marry the woman. Whether she would take on the royal life was not known to him either.
Their private life had little privacy anymore. They were in the eye of the public almost all the time which had Edward fearing Ilona would leave him for it, and he would have understood such a decision. Yet everyday they were flirting with each other, Edward joking and complimenting his woman whilst she threw the most fine sass back at him. In time they began to attend prestigious events together although word wise their presence was short, but Edward couldn’t resist showing off the possible future Queen Consort of England.
