Eyelashes fluttered in a surprised blink as her words died on her lips. She hadnât approached him with much confidence, much less optimism that he might have the same thing in mind. Oh, how she was glad to be wrong about this. He had far exceeded her expectations. Â
âOh! I... I was. If you were interested in going out.â She fumbled, her usually pale face turning an uncharacteristic pink as she fought through her surprise and nerves. âBut, I guess, if you were planning to ask me then you must be. Heh.â
Oh, dear. She had not planned for this. If anything sheâd expected a polite ânoâ not âhe was planning to ask herâ. She was practically GIDDY at this turn of events. Her heart was all aflutter and for a moment she felt like there was no way this was actually happening. He liked her!
âSo... Dinner sound good? Or we could just do pizza and a movie at my place if youâd prefer something more casual. I have a big TV.â

In theory, the job should be easy. Blend in and infiltrate a gala and black market weaponâs auction. It was a simple intel job. Get in undetected and get out with information on who was there and what was being sold.. And more importantly who it was being sold TO. But that wasnât the problem. The problem was that it was also a formal event full of everyone who is anyone in the criminal underground. There was no way the agency would be able to send in Lance. He was too recognizable and a pigeon would get chased out. But, as it turned out, Killian had some âold connectionsâ that could get him an invite to this classy event and he was allowed to bring a âPlus Oneâ. A date... Elsa.Â
It had been a a few days since they received the assignment.. Just under two weeks left to prepare and really become a convincing couple. Which was incredibly difficult when the person you have to pretend to be in a relationship with is a very private person and also the person you already have something of a developing crush on. But Elsa would fight through that for the sake of the mission and be a professional. A professional who had to give physical affection as a part of her mission.
Taking a deep breath Elsa rounded the corner into Killianâs office. In her hands she held two piping hot cups of coffee from the cafe up the street. She brought breakfast for the team pretty often but suddenly bringing just HIM things felt a little more... substantial.Â
âMorning, partner.â She greeted warmly, walking over to hold out one of the cups for him, âFigured you could use it.â

The pitter patter of bouncy robot feet could be heard through the entire gadget lab as Elsa escorted her robotic companion through the building. There was a certain young man that Elsa thought would want to meet him. But first Olaf insisted on introducing himself to every ânew friendâ that walked past him.Â
âHi! Iâm Olaf, and I like warm hugs!â The little snowman-shaped android greeted, bouncing forward as soon as he saw another human. Elsa couldnât help an amused and endeared laugh when she realized the little guyâs newest target was Killian. She could only imagine how confused he must be. Olaf was a part of their relationship she hadnât quite prepared him for.Â
âSorry. Probably should have warned youâ She apologized, walking over, âKillian, this is Olaf. I brought him in to meet Walter.â
Olaf gasped loudly, little stick-like arms lifting to cup his own cheeks in gleeful surprise. âYouâre Killian! Iâve heard so much about you!â He darted forward, hugging the man around the legs snugly âYouâre Elsaâs special friend! She really, really likes you. And anyone who makes Elsa this happy is a friend of mine."
Elsaâs face reddened quickly and she bent to pull Olaf off of Killian with a stammer, âThank you, Olaf.â That was enough from the adorable Snowman. It wasnât like he didnât KNOW, but there was something about the childlike eagerness that made it seem like a little... too much too soon. âI uh.. Should probably get to work. Lots to do. Heh.â
She urged Olaf along as she nudged him behind herself to try and keep him from embarrassing her further. But that didnât stop her from leaning up to give Killian a quick, affectionate peck on the cheek before she left.
âSee you after work. Er... Bye!âÂ
And she scurried away before Olaf could accidentally confess anything else for her.Â

They were standing arm in arm, surrounded by a crowd of the worldâs most wanted criminals, watching one mountainous man stomp and stumble around in a gruff, half drunken stupor. The host of the eveningâs festivities. An old associate of Kimura before he was put behind bars. Now holding this elite auction to sell off the rest of his old bossâ goods. He would have been intimidating if he wasnât tripping all over himself.
Elsa smirked, lifting her head to whisper into her dateâs ear so no one else around them would hear. âSilver lining: If this ends badly, we can outrun him with a brisk walk.â
She laughed quietly, unhooking their arms to slide her hand down past his wrist to wrap her fingers around his. âCome on.â she urged, pulling him away from the crowd, âLetâs mingle somewhere else. Before we get trampled.â

killian hated matters of court.
it wasn't that he hated the matters, or the court. he tried to make it a point not to hate anything, and yet some events simply made it impossible. his father holding court with what felt like the entirety of eruba was one such event. they came to meet with the apollian king and his family, with their horses and banners and people, and the darkness followed.
in his years of life, killian had only seen three such meetings; the two kingdoms made it a point to convene as little as necessary, and for good reason: it was no secret amongst the kingdoms that eruba and apollis did not... get along. it was only natural, to be perfectly honest, that a kingdom of light and color would not enjoy the allyship of a place of such shadowy business.
after the pleasantries, the official greetings, the handshakes, the introductions, the snide remarks from those in low enough titles they could get away with it, the duties required of him from this first day at court, killian took it upon himself to slip away as quickly as he could. he'd seen plenty of similar meetings, anyway, he didn't need to stick around for one with eruba. the shadows creeping along the walls that typically saw no shadows at all were making him uneasy.
as he slipped out of the great hall, eyes trained on the seats nearest him, an excuse prepared if any of his neighbors were to question why he was leaving, killian turned his body before his head. this was unfortunate, as where there was once air killian found himself walking face-first into a body.
"what are-" he found himself ready to scold whichever member of staff took it upon themselves to be privy to royal matters, though a glance upward (upward? he wasn't used to having to look up to lock eyes with someone) stopped him. "are you not supposed to be in court right now, prince ryn?"
What if? Red never approached the devilish stranger in the barâŚ
Working a night shift in the tavern had always been one of Redâs least favourite past times. The odd gentleman would arrive, catch her eye for a few moments then they would disappear with one of the other girls within the bar area.
Red had seldom let herself bask in the thought of fornication before marriage, Granny had always been very stern on that matter and would she be damned if she ever broke the Rule.
Damned. The very definition of the word was her. The unfortunate gift of shapeshifting had been passed onto her from her parents. It often caused a ruckus within her life. For example, this evening Red knew she would have to sneak out for a few hours, fill all the cups with ale, borrow a man to take to a room then hop out the window once they passed out on the bed.
It was the only way she could have some peace during wolfstime.
Red had already chosen a man for the night, one she could get drunk enough to leave before things got too serious. A lonely man, sparkling eyes, shaggy blond hair and a beautiful smile. He would do perfectly, she thought.
Yet Killian Jones seemed to have other plans for her, he knew of her little secret and often helped with her nightly escapes when she needed it the most. This time he needed a favour.
Catching her off guard, he took her by the arm, earning a stern look from the girl, and pulled her to the side.
âRed,â he sung, donning a mischievous smile. âFancy another night together?â a small wink followed his words, offering Red the chance to roll her eyes before returning the favour.
âAnd what will it be tonight Captain? On the house or with silver?â Red had done this many times before, his protection for hers. Usually all he wanted was for her to spy on a blonde lady on the other side of the castle walls. One she could get close to as a consort for the Queen. But today, she could feel the bloodlust coarse through his veins, the hunger that painted his eyes though he tried to mask it so eloquently with that devilish smile.
âShould we go somewhere more⌠Private?â
A pang of guilt shot through her heart as Jones gestured his hands, bringing her attention once more to the cloaked figure in the corner. âOf course, Captain.â she nodded, âLet me finish my duties here first and then-â
âWe must go now,â he shot, almost taking Red by surprise. âThere is no time to dilly dally.â his face relaxed, blinking away the urgency. âWhat I have to propose to you is time sensitive, as you very well know.â
The air round the tavern had become cool; she knew the sun was close to setting, the familiar shiver was sent racing down her spine. âVery well.â she nodded, placing her jug down between his men, taking the hook within her hand and pulling him to the usual room they occupied.
It had only taken them a few strides, watching as all eyes rested upon the two as she led him away. There had been much speculation that the relationship between the Captain and Barmaid grew beyond the depths of prostitution. Yet today had been the first time in a while she had felt guilty for leaving too early, like she had been robbed of something she scarcely knew existed.
The door creaked shut behind them, ensuring they giggled much before both plopping down next to each other on the bed. âWhat is the plan for today?â Red had turned to him slightly, pulling her dress to allow for more movement.
âI need you to kill someone.â
Red stopped, shocked at his words. âKillian that was not in our agreement.â
âI know,â he added âBut Red, I beg you. They are more of a monster than you and me together.â As he spoke he took her hands within his, a pitiful plea resting upon his face. âPlease, Red. Please.â
Taking a moment to process his words, a concerned look washed over her face. âYou know i can not kill him, Rumplestiltskin is too strong for me.â
Killian shook his head, releasing her hands and standing away from where she perched, placing his thumb and forefinger upon his temple. âIt is not him i wish to see dead, not today anyway. This man.. This-this Beast!â
âKillian!â Red snarled, disappointment lacing itself upon her features. âThere are no Beasts in this world.â
âI am sorry Red, I mean no offence.â He shook his head once more, taking a seat across the room from her.
âWho are they?â
Killian held his hands before her. âA creature from the deepest darkest depths of the ocean.â He tensed as he spoke, as if reliving a memory he was too afraid to speak of. âTheir eyes darker than the ocean floor. Seeping into our society, pretending to be one of us.â
âOh, Killian.â Ruby mumbled, shaking her head. âAnd do you believe me to be the same? An imposter that is trying to ruin a bloodline, create more monsters in her wake!?â Red had stood, taking a few steps to come closer before crouching before him. âTell me more about them. Are you sure there is nothing I can do to take away this tempted fate of yours?â
The Captain looked down to where she had perched. âI will take you to see him. You are already in his trance, it seems.
âThere is no time, wolfstime is upon us. I will not make it to a safe distance before I-â
âOh to Hell with it!â Killian rose again, nearly unbalancing Red from where she perched. âRed, I beg of you to help me put an end to this creature's life. Even your Granny agrees. They are nothing but trouble!â
âGranny put you up to this?â Red stood now, her voice raised as a look of betrayal shot towards the man.
âOf course she did not! I know nothing of this species, I had to talk to someone and your Grandmother knows more than any. She has witnessed their wrath first hand. And so have you!â Killian had raised his voice, pacing before her like a man on a mission. âHe killed your father.â
The words struck Red deep within her heart, almost causing her to fall back upon herself. âHow do you know about my Father?â Killian stood before her, holding a hand to his mouth as if he had stepped out of line before his time. âKillian, my father was killed by hunters when I was a baby. Granny has always told me this. Her son was murdered by a silver tipped dagger. It is common knowledge.â
âNo, no, NO! Red do you not see? These lies are here to protect you from yourself, they were made to protect you from your Mother but see how that ended? You buried her not far from here, no? I know things My dear friend, please, Please! Listen to me.â
Red stood back. Staring at this mad man before her. âGet out.â she spoke, her voice but a mere whisper. âLeave this tavern and do not return until this madness has left your mind.â
Killian stood, swaying gently as if knocked back by a hard wind, his mouth opening to say a word that never arrived. âIâm sorry Red.â His voice was meek now, quieter than before. âBut this creature will kill you. Werewolves and Sirens are natural born enemies.â Carefully, he walked towards the door. âI will wait for you to get to a safe distance before I leave. But please think about what I have said.â Killian placed himself in the chair by the door, gesturing to the open window.
âHow can I trust a mad man?â Red asked, tears stinging her eyes.
âAsk the cloaked creature downstairs.â
