Victorian Bushfire Appeal

Huge commemorative drops of US Airborne and British Paras were carried out over Normandy to celebrate and honour the 75th anniversary of the June 5th/6th landings. Though innaccurately performed by daylight, the nearly 300 strong drop was a moving sight.

Among the serving military personnel were three veterans, all over 90 years old, retracing the steps of their youth one last time. One ex Red Devil, 94, said “I should have more sense.” Then again, at less than 17 years old he had volunteered to jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane. One wonders how much sense he had to start with ;)
