Are there any nice parks you'd recommend in Helsinki (or something not a local would not know)? I recently moved here and I've only been to the city center. Underground/artsy beer/concert places would also be nice.

One of us just moved to Helsinki too! Yay! We hope you are enjoying it here! But honestly...our best tip is that just be brave and go explore the city on your own. Subway is an easy way to get out of the city centre quickly. We believe you'll eventually discover the best places when you don't make any plans and just go where your feet (or the subway) leads you.

I'm sure you're quite busy, but have you ever considered contributing to a Finnish For English Speakers course on Duolingo (or know someone else who would be interested)? Duolingo is a pretty great resource, but it's missing the awesomeness of Finnish.

We are HUGE fans of Duolingo and we absolutely agree there should be Finnish courses on there....but we unfortunately have no plans to personally contribute to that happening. Hopefully we still get to see Finnish on Duolingo soon tho! :-)

for 75 years, Finland’s expectant mothers have been given a box by the state. it’s like a starter kit of clothes, sheets and toys that can even be used as a bed. and some say it helped Finland achieve one of the world’s lowest infant mortality rates.

it’s a tradition that dates back to the 1930s and it’s designed to give all children in Finland, no matter what background they’re from, an equal start in life.

the maternity package - a gift from the government - is available to all expectant mothers.

it contains bodysuits, a sleeping bag, outdoor gear, bathing products for the baby, as well as nappies, bedding and a small mattress.

with the mattress in the bottom, the box becomes a baby’s first bed. many children, from all social backgrounds, have their first naps within the safety of the box’s four cardboard walls.
