Reading Recommendations Part IV: Web novels, manhwa and manhua
I’ve been having a lot of spare time during the weekend to read and I’ve really been enjoying web novels. Web novels are not illustrated so it feels more like reading a book and as such contain much more details and leave more things to the imagination ^^ I’ve just been reading so many manhwa and manhua thus I reached a point where I felt my appetite wasn’t being fulfilled. I’ve recently started reading web novels so if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know :)
Web novels:
Remarried empress- manhwa adaptation
I don’t want to be loved
The Ceo’s Villainess Childhood friend
The villainess reverses the hourglass- manwha adaptation
Reboot Sienna
Trial Marriage Husband: Need to work hard
Ascendance of a bookworm: has anime adaptation
Inso’s Law- manwha adaptation
My next life as a villainess: all routes lead to doom!- anime adaptation
Living as the villainess queen
Transmigration: Raising the child of the male lead boss
Return of the female knight
Abandoned empress- manwha adaptation
I raised a black dragon
I should have read the ending
The former wife of invisible wealthy man
Lady to queen (May not be for everyone might like or hate it)- manwha adaptation
Manhua/Manwha:
Beware of the Brothers!
Beware of the Villainess!
Lady Beast
Seduce the Villain’s father Solo Leveling
Tower of God
The Duchess with an empty soul
In love with my trouble
Be king’s daughter someday
The secret she keeps
The trap of hormones
Your turn to chase after me
Lucia
The Villain’s savior
*There are many other popular manhwa/manwha that wasn’t mentioned on this post because it was mentioned on my previous post part III which can be found here

Who knows about Sally Hemings?
She was Thomas Jefferson's slave.
Called his "mistress," but how can you be a mistress when you were a slave, a child, and could not consent? Had absolutely no choice?
She bore him 6, perhaps as many as 8 children. He kept her locked in a basement room.
The room was recently unearthed, and DNA evidence has proven the lineage of Sally's children.
She was beteeen 12 and 14 years old when he started raping her, and Jefferson was in his forties. He freed the children that he had with her, but not Sally. Her daughter had to free her mother after Jefferson passed away.
This is not taught in schools. This side of history. We are supposed to consider the founding fathers as great men, fighting for justice and freedom, guided by God... when they are evil men. Selfish men who did nothing, save that it was for their own aggrandisement, personal benefit, and financial gain.
I would also like to add that Sally was Jefferson's dead wife's half sister. Sally's mother was raped by her owner, who was Martha (wife of Thomas) Jefferson's father.
These people left a legacy.
A legacy of entitlement under the most criminal of circumstances, and White Supremacist beliefs which pervade U.S. Society and Culture, to this very day.
Hello, I was wondering if you were comfortable with sharing a bit more information about your three Illyrian OCs? I of course mean Mara, Dina and Varsha. I really want to draw them, if it's alright!
OMG IM SO SORRY YOU MUSTVE WAITED FOREVER??? Ive taken a break from writing for the past couple of years. Maybe spontaneously writing every now and then.
But yes you may draw them! ahahaha
I’m not sure if you have seen the drawing i made of them. (The very bad one). But I had invisioned them as that drawing. I may not continue this series to be honest...
To go in more depth:
DINA: she is the shortest of the trio (like 5”4) and youngest. She has Asian heritage, and is a child out of wedlock. Lord Ardal had an affair with someone from Velaris who was of Asian descent. She does have almond, slanted eyes that show her Asian traits and her hair is like PITCH black. She is depicted as the deceiver because she had hidden her gender while in the camps. She likes her hair short. and to be honest, I kind of see her with an undercut. Dina was actually supposed to be paired up with Mor, as Dina had fallen in love with her some time after she was rescued by her. Dina has really tan skin, taking after the Illyrian side.
Varsha: I wanted Varsha to be of Indian descent. Of the trio, she is the calmest and also the wealthiest. She came from a well-off family. She is the mediator. She’s not the best fighter, but she’s really determined. Her hair is very long and a dark brown. Her skin I would say is the tannest, and she likes to have gold jewelry on her. Like, a nose piercing, piercing on her ears, and even a gold one.
I think I wanted her to be paired up with Azriel at one point, but had decided to have her meet her mate... like i think they had some sort of chemistry but it didn’t work out. I’m still thinking over it... It depends..
Mara: Mara!! She’s the most skilled and oldest of the trio. She is the tallest. Her hair is like a deep red, and very weird for an Illyrian. Her eyes are like pitch black, and it actually scared a lot of the Illyrians. She is the most intimidating and is like a mother tbh. Her and Dina don’t get along well (ahah like mother and daughter) and they fight but it is always for the better of Dina because Dina is very inexperienced and young. Mara tends to be very apathetic too... like she thinks more logical and less emotionally.
Mara was my first choice to pair up with Azriel. Idk why... Mara had never really met Azriel (they always tended to miss each other) in the 200 years she’s lived... Like they never really met until after the war.

elixir of truth ; chapter three
MASTERLIST
<<< previous chapter | next chapter >>>
“...ceased, a low grumble released from her mouth. Briar opened the door to her apartment, irked that someone would interrupt her, but stopped with such an abrupt force she shut the door again.”
Briar felt like an absolute idiot. She was also flustered and the world felt like got a hundred degrees hotter.
She’d known fae were beautiful--but Illyrian’s took it to a whole new level. They were...Fuck, Briar couldn’t even begin to think of how to describe those hazel eyes and that toned, dark skin, or those midnight wings--
Gods, she was such a girl. She couldn’t believe that she was pawing over him--pawning over the male that saw her in her weakest state.
“You’re digging a grave, Briar,” she muttered to herself as she struggled to get through the crowds--albeit not that much--with her mountains of bags. She should’ve asked Loren to stay for a while longer to drop this off at home. But, she also didn’t want him to know where she lived.
A bag fell, the one that carried most of her liquids, when she ran into yet another person.
A series of demoralizing curses escaped her mouth and she swirled around to look for it--
Azriel held her fallen bag.
Briar probably would’ve dropped another.
But, like the coward she was with confronting a male like him, Briar swiftly turned herself around, put a stern foot ahead of herself, and shoved her way through the crowds. She did not look back to see if he was following--though, she scolded herself for even thinking about that.
She was such--a--girl. A small, human girl who was crushing too hard on a fae. It made her feel pathetic--and also pleasurably tingly in the stomach.
Briar scrunched her nose, and turned a blind eye--she wouldn’t--couldn’t--have those feelings. He’s immortal--and she’s not--and she’s going to grow old and alone looking at his his ageless, wonderful, chiseled, face.
In the second room of Briar’s home, she sat on a stool and hunched over a stained wooden table. She’s just finished organizing the products onto their shelves. In fact, she named her shelves by powders to liquids to solids.
By doing so, she realized that the salamander skins were still low in supply--and along with the most of her roots and seeds for her alchemist studies.
There was no doubt that Amren would be displeased with the lack of those. Briar found herself quite foolish now, for running away from the very fae that held those bags.
That was money wasted, going down the drain. Who knew if she was ever going to get those ingredients back. And if she never did? She would have to wait another month for the restock.
Instead of worrying more about something she couldn’t change (due to her overly shy self), Briar had powdered some ingredients and then went straight to her room, where her most beloved possession sat on the bedside table.
Though, she didn’t get much time with it because of a knock on her door. Her music ceased, a low grumble released from her mouth. Briar opened the door to her apartment, irked that someone would interrupt her, but stopped with such an abrupt force she shut the door. Hard.
. . .
Perhaps one of reasons why the human girl paid less for rent was because of her music. Yes, her particular unit often smelled of smoke and other oddities, but she made up for it by the pleasantry soft and deep sounds of her cello. It was that, and the fact that Amren paid for most of it.
The people of the apartment didn’t mind it--the music that lofted from the girl’s walls. It was as though she caught the right moment to play her beloved instrument. It wasn’t everyday, but she always caught the tunes of the day. It wasn’t just a bright note, or a sad note, or a bored one--it was all of them, hinted with the perspective of everyone’s wishes.
She knew how to work with what she saw in the days--playing the strings and stick with grace. No one’s ever seen her play--which always raised the question: could the human girl, who had been born into a somewhat decent family, really play the cello?
But that was soon discarded. Briar’s music was her own--with it’s grace and it’s unique peak of incentive.
Many knew her--even out of her apartment complex--for her music. It spread word--of the human graced with such a talent and a peculiar knack for concocting the oddest potions with Amren.
Azriel shouldn’t have been surprised to hear about Amren, recruiting another person to do her weird witchcraft after Nesta had been very against it.
And it unsettled him, because this was new territory--something that he never paid much attention to. He didn’t know what could happen with this thing between Amren and Briar.
The thought of her sent a chill down his spine. He remembered her, the broken body that he carried along with Elain. He never thought he would see her again, but here he was--holding a bag she’d dropped and now standing just outside her door.
Azriel had never done something like this. Something that is so casual--but to him, it was so odd.
He also never thought that he would be so nervous. This was human girl, living in the city he loved, working with his closest friend, and who was once in his arms during a time of war.
What could he say to her? “Hello, I remember you--and you dropped these”? Or maybe “I saw you at Winstyn’s bakery, you dropped this--by the way, how are you? Great? Great.”
Azriel raised his hand up to knock, but paused. There was that cello that he had heard so much of. The deep sensations that vibrated off the door, and the soothing notes that lazed the tense muscles of his back.
He listened for a while, out the door. He was reminded of the past week--of training Feyre and then the silence that Mor is giving him. All of his troubles were heard, from the depth of the cello’s music.
Azriel had never heard such music that touched him this way. Not like Starfall, where the music only made him lighter. This was a melody of everyone’s days--the tones of all emotions in a single note...where he felt s--
“Curious, seeing you here,” said the voice of a short, high-fae with a wicked smile on her face. “These days are never too short of them. I assume you heard of her talents?”
Azriel snapped himself out of the melody and steadied his glare on Amren.
“You never said that Briar was your apprentice.”
Ruby Bridges was the first black child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960.
This movie made me cry, I was so heart broken by how Ruby Bridges was treated! She was only 6, but was so strong. She is a very brave girl and she did not care what the white folks called her.
People are simply disgusting to minimize people by skin color!
Ruby you might not think you’re a hero… But to other people you are! You are A HERO and you are A PERSON WHO MADE AMERICA CHANGE!
this is white culture, this is their history, this is their legacy…being enraged at a damn baby just because she’s black.
she’s still alive by the way
Ruby Bridges in 2010
“As Bridges describes it, “Driving up I could see the crowd, but living in New Orleans, I actually thought it was Mardi Gras. There was a large crowd of people outside of the school. They were throwing things and shouting, and that sort of goes on in New Orleans at Mardi Gras.“ Former United States Deputy Marshal Charles Burks later recalled, “She showed a lot of courage. She never cried. She didn’t whimper. She just marched along like a little soldier, and we’re all very very proud of her.“
U.S. Marshals escorted Bridges to and from school
As soon as Bridges entered the school, white parents pulled their own children out; all the teachers refused to teach while a black child was enrolled. Only one person agreed to teach Ruby and that was Barbara Henry, from Boston, Massachusetts, and for over a year Henry taught her alone, “as if she were teaching a whole class.”
Every morning, as Bridges walked to school, one woman would threaten to poison her; because of this, the U.S. Marshals dispatched by President Eisenhower, who were overseeing her safety, allowed Ruby to eat only the food that she brought from home.
Another woman at the school put a black baby doll in a wooden coffin and protested with it outside the school, a sight that Bridges Hall has said “scared me more than the nasty things people screamed at us.” At her mother’s suggestion, Bridges began to pray on the way to school, which she found provided protection from the comments yelled at her on the daily walks.”

THIS SHIT WAS ONLY 58 YEARS AGO. PEOPLE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS RACIST TERRORISM AND ACTS LIKE IT ARE STILL ALIVE, AND THEIR KIDS ARE IN THEIR 40′S AND 50′S.
DON’T LET RACISM APOLOGISTS GET AWAY WITH “WHY ARE YOU LIVING IN THE PAST,” BULLSHIT ARGUMENTS. WE ARE LITERALLY STILL DEALING WITH THE FAMILIES THAT FORMED HATE MOBS OVER BLACK CHILDREN ATTENDING SCHOOL WITH WHITE KIDS.
This was her then:
This is literally how she looks in 2017.
She’s literally not even old.
This is alway profound to me and gives me chills

This is the funniest shit Ive ever seen
“young adult dystopian novels are so unrealistic lmao like they always have some random teenage girl rising up to inspire the world to make change.”
a hero emerges
And just like in the novels, grown men and women are going out of their way to destroy her. Support our hero.
And it’s not even like it doesn’t happen regularly.
Teenage girls are amazing.
Sometimes they’re not even teenagers
Reblog every time a girl is discredited/ignored
Girls are really just out there trying to change the world.
