A compilation of thoughts & theories that I will incorporate in my Furina portrayal. Please note that this is written before 4.2 + none of these theories are mine, but I really do like them & will adapt them until HYV proves me otherwise :^) I'm mainly referencing this video as I write this up. I will just straight up start this off with a bang โ I believe that Furina is an Oceanid and I will pick that up again in a bit. We know Hydro is the element that is very connected to emotions & Oceanids are known to be exceptionally sensitive to emotions. Another defining trait about Oceanids is their unique ability to merge and create a collective consciousness that ends up as a singular entity, but the reverse is also possible โ meaning that they can split apart. Egeria is also known as the Mother of Oceanids & they are said to be born from her tears.
The conclusion drawn from this is that Furina is an Oceanid Eidolon โ a reflection/fragment that split from Egeria either before or during the Cataclysm. That fragment stayed in Fontaine, so the nation wouldn't be left without its Archon, and Egeria's 'main' body would leave for the desert, where they eventually met their end.
Since Furina is a mere reflection of the prior Hydro Archon, she's naturally smaller, less powerful and less knowledgeable โ which I'd say undoubtedly contribute to her insecurity that she tries to hide with her flamboyant demeanour.
Sooooo this is where I start getting into the prophecy. Oceanid fragments are also known as Eidolons, which is greek & stands for ghost or apparition of the deceased.
And honestly, one of the reasons why I'd like this theory to be true is because I really want to know if Hyv has the guts to do this. I'm coming in here and rolling with the assumption that the people of Fontaine are Eidolons, which is also why it's possible that they get dissolved through Primordial Water.
The people will all be dissolved into the waters. And only the Hydro Archon will remain, weeping on her throne.
I believe that this is punishment from the Primordial One for Egeria's sin โ she says that everyone will sink, but in reality, the people of Fontaine have already drowned & she has created the Oceanids in their stead. Therefore, in extension, it's punishment against Furina as well.
It's demonstrated that Furina doesn't know how the Oratrice work, despite the fact that she is it's supposed creator. Which, she is โ but she doesn't know it, since Egeria was the one to create the Oratrice & the knowledge of its functions perished alongside her. I also believe that the gnosis is also stored within the Oratrice โ alongside a fragment of Furina/Egeria, and it's that fragment within the Oratrice that plays the role of an Archon. It's the part of her that focuses on justice and judgement, while Furina herself is the actress in an never-ending play.
Lastly, Neuvillette โ Furina indeed relies on him, but I think that would have been the case regardless of who's the Hydro Archon. Egeria was also known to be sympathetic towards the Dragon Sovereigns, but I actually prefer to reason the relationship between Hydro Archon & -Sovereign differently.
I choose to believe that Neuvillette or the role of the Sovereign in general is inspired by Numa Pompilius, a consort for Egeria in greek mythology. Egeria, in turn, was his counselor and would teach Pompilius how to be a wise legislator.
In regards to Neuvillette and Furina, I think this would translate that they share the same views on law & justice โ which in turn would also explain the unbroken consensus between Neuvillette and the Oratrice during trials.
