this isn't meant to be a criticism, like i genuinely don't mean it in a mean way, but another thing i've noticed about hdg is that like. it ends up making me feel something similar to the sentiment of "it's easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism" that's roughly like "it's easier to imagine that FTL is real and aliens are coming to force us to behave and be happy, than it is to simply imagine us managing to do this ourselves" especially because it's kind of the Point of a lot of HDG stories that like. yeah. you ARE either a hopeless little wimpy baby that can hardly do anything without your plant mommy to save you, OR you're a pouty, self-destructive, tantrum-throwing little brat who *thinks* they're tough, but *still* needs their plant mommy to save them after all. and on a broader level, it all straight up depends on the Affini being correct in their assessment that humanity absolutely needs their help, because the internal logic dictates that they would have been wise and benevolent enough not to do it otherwise. It literally just has to be like, an inherent ontological truth that hdg humanity really was hopeless without them.

when a child with chronic or terminal illness or a disability/their sibling is well informed about the condition strangers love to say "no child should have to know that 😢" yeah well i think the world would be significantly better if more children knew about that actually. teach your healthy kids about illness teach your abled kids about disability Please !

and people will say this about the stupidest shit of all time. a diabetic child is like "this is my glucose monitor! these are my ketone test strips!" and people are aghast "no baby should have to know about this!!!!" okay so youd rather his mom just poked and tested him and injected insulin and collected his urine without explanation? you genuinely would prefer this child live in fear and ignorance about the daily routines of his life? because like no amount of pouty faces and prayers and condescending instagram comments are going to remove the illness from the child's life so our options are being informed about our bodies or being confused/frightened by them.

“Healthy” kids should know this too. I knew what my parents had to do about their health problems and it meant that info was there for me when I needed it. Did you know that going backwards down stairs helps with chronic knee pain? I did, as a kid, because my dad explained why he was doing that. And when my knees started to hurt at age 12 I used it. And it helped.
