Mermay 2020 - Day 2 Warrior

MerMay day 1! Prompt for this one is love! 

Progress update on the lyra doll project! I’ve got all the flowers done on one of the hoops with the pose! I still need to make the outfit for her, and I want to add some ribbon on the hoop with maybe some star beads. (and yes i am hanging it from the peg on the back of my lamp atm lol)

Today my brain was like 'centaur' and I was like 'ok'

What have I decided to do during my quarantine? Well, both of the aerial studios near me closed and that made me sad so I will be crafting lyra at home to make me feel better. My friend was doing some diy doll stuff and I was showing her lyra poses with the doll and then suddenly realized that an embroidery hoop makes a fantastic doll lyra, so here we are. The hoops are a little small for the dolls, but they’re close enough, and I’m also a little limited in poses just because I want to avoid hot glue, and the made to move dolls, while very poseable, do have flexibility limits, mainly in the back/hips. Barbie will not make it into man in the moon or wine glass no matter how hard I try :( But either way I’m going to be decorating the hoops with ribbon and flowers, dying the blond barbie’s hair, making fun outfits for them, and then hanging them from the ceiling using command hooks. The color palettes are based off of their original outfits. Right now, step one is done, paint the hoops! I’m planning to post updates fairly regularly as I keep working on them. I’m probably going to try to sketch drafts of the outfits I want to sew for them later!

New gijinka character, this time based off of shiny umbreon! Really happy with the shading on this one although I have mixed feelings about the hair 

I had my first pole class this week and it was so much fun! I already can’t wait for my next one! I thought it would be fun to draw one of the poses from the class for some anatomy practice and also maybe to help my memory. The angle is a bit off on this, it should be more forward facing, but that’s okay. I might update this later with background and some more detail, but overall I’m still really happy with this! She’s not a character right now, but if I do make a habit of drawing after pole class I might make her one for that!
