River Nicks was actually born Jasper Michael Hendricks on January 16, 1999 in Boston, MA. his mother was a government official, and his biological father was the police chief, but they were separated by the time Jasper was born, and his mother soon remarried his stepfather, an ambitious politician climbing his way through the ranks, with his eye on the title of governor, which he would go on to attain during Jasperโs senior year of high school. Jasper would grow up in a picture perfect, all-American home, right down to the white picket fence. his parents were incredibly involved in his education, sending him to private schools from daycare to his senior graduation. and Jasper loved his parents.
but, he wasnโt happy.
not with all the money his family tried to rain on to his problems. not with the privilege that came along with his last name. he would go on to use these things to his advantage, but Jasper Hendricks was an angry kid. he can still recall overhearing his grandmother tell his mother that he was devilish. that word always stuck with him.
he wanted to learn sports, and was surprisingly talented at every one he picked up. baseball, football, lacrosse, but his favorite had always been hockey. his stepdad was grateful to have something in common having played the like in his youth,
high school was a breeze. making friends was easy. everyone wants to be friends with the star athlete, the good looking rich kid that could get away with anything. he became especially popular among his female classmates, and dated most of them. Jasper became infamous in his friend group for being the girlfriend stealer, but that never deterred his boys from still wanting to buddy up with him.
when Jasper finally got a steady girlfriend, he was a junior. Cassidy was a year younger, and the two quickly became the it couple around campus. to everyone on the outside looking in, they looked to be perfect for each other. inseparable, Jasper picked her up in a sleek, black mustang every morning and drove her home every evening. the two even stayed after school for each otherโs extracurriculars. and the PDA. there wasnโt a moment that the two werenโt holding on to one another, kissing in the hallways, hanging on each other during pep rallies.
but Jasper was still devilish. and his temper was a short fuse, dissipating over time. the drinking didnโt help. Jasper started partying sophomore year, especially after games, and drank heavily. even when the cops broke up the get togethers, he was always sent home with a slap on the wrist or a stern warning, because he was the Golden Boy. it gave him the power to drink more and more, because he was sliding by while everyone turned their heads and pretended he wasnโt.
six and a half years ago, a senior Jasper was too many drinks in to see two feet in front of his face, he was fighting anyone who even looked at him in a way he didnโt like, and Cassidy wanted to be anywhere but with him. sheโd begged him to take her home, which had spurred an argument, and Jasper told Cassidy that he wasnโt going to drive her home. sheโd just have to stay and deal with it, but she had enough. Cassidy asked one of Jasperโs team members, an underclassmen who idolized Jasper, to take her home. he, under the impression that doing a favor for Jasperโs girlfriend might be just what he needed in order to become friends with the senior who seemed more like a celebrity than a classmate, agreed without a second thought. when Jasper found out that his girlfriend had simply left with another boy, he saw red. he jumped in his car and burned rubber peeling out of the drive, speeding like a bat out of hell to catch up with the kid.
his temper had won, and after a furious car chase, Jasper rammed the driverโs side of the kidโs car, and ran it off the road, over the ditch. the car collided head on with a tree, and the young man died upon impact. Cassidy would be in intensive care for a weekend, but pull through. Jasper had totaled his own car in the accident, spinning out and then flipping it, but had little in the way of injuries besides some nasty bruising and stitchable gashes.
a kid was dead.
a kid was dead and it was the governorโs sonโs fault.
the trial of the century was almost a joke.
instead of jail time, Jasper was acquitted and the only requirements were the loss of his license, mandatory AA and mandatory anger management counseling. even though his parents had paid off the members of the jury, and the judge, and everyone else they could to keep their son from being convicted of murder, Jasper had soiled their reputation, and his own. he lost every scholarship, every friend, and all respect in the city. even his parents wanted him to disappear. and so, they helped him do it.

a fresh start was on the agenda whether he wanted it or not. his mother legally disowned Jasper Hendricks, and closed all of the accounts under his name. โYouโre not my son anymore. Pick a new name.โ
he chose the name River Nicks.
his parents set him up with a condo in LA and a new account with enough money to keep him comfortable for a year or two, but once he found out what the city had to offer in ways of partying, he blew through that in a matter of months. and then, he had to find a job.
River didnโt want to work; he didnโt even know what he could be good at. he job surfed for a couple of weeks, getting hired and fired from three separate gigs before his friends introduced him to the gym they frequented, and boxing. he was damn good at hitting things, and he was also in desperate need of an outlet for his rage. it was almost too perfect.
heโs managed to make a home here in this city with friends who brought booze and all the fun things to crush and put up his nose that he could ask for, and decent money hurting others, which was a talent he supposed he always possessed.
of course, as with most instances, once the money started flowing, so did the women. Riverโs quite the serial dater, but nothing real ever sticks. he prefers the life of a bachelor, one that can party until sunrise and sleep until noon.
