ââ The idea still didnât appeal to him all that much. He sighed heavily. To be frank, it had been a very long time since Rangiku had requested this sort of thing. Even though he was angry at her for skipping the first two hours of work, and although he fiercely believed she didnât deserve a treat, her tone and the way she worded her request made it difficult for him to refuse.Â
Whenever they had lunch together, he always enjoyed himself â even if he never showed his enthusiasm. Lunch with Rangiku was a lot smoother and settled than one would think. They talked, and they talked about normal stuff. Every day stuff; what was happening in her life, and what was happening in his. Granted, she could get a little too detailed, but it was interesting.
A good catch-up. They spent their entire lives bottling everything in, and the only time they felt able to talk was with each other. They didnât judge, they didnât walk away, and they didnât grow bored. They were interested in how the other felt, what they were doing, what they wanted to do. They were important. To each other, at least, and it would be wrong of him to turn down her invitation.
In all honesty, he needed someone to talk to anyway. And so did she.
'Fine.'
He didnât have any place in mind, but trusted Rangiku had an idea.Â
'We can go today. As long as you get your work done.' He flicked his gaze towards her. 'Is there anywhere specifically you want to go?â
A bright, genuine smile rose to Rangiku's lips as she heard her usually cold and unamused captain agree to a request she thought not even the heavens could convince him to agree on.Â
Little did he know, it made her day, no, her week. It was rare for them to interact on such a personal level considering Hitsugaya's constant need for an authoritative title and figure, but she knew he meant well inside. The two knew they were close, very close on an emotional level, without needing a title to label the degree of their friendship and trust.Â
"Great," she murmured quietly, before repeating it a lot more enthusiastically. "Great!" Finally, no more bento boxes for lunch in the office.Â
"Finally! About time we ditched the boring bentos! Let's go down to one place I know for sure Taicho you'll love! The Spring Festival is almost here, so I know you'll love the new foods! In fact, I'll get started now so that we can hurry and taste their new dango recipe that I always wanted to eat,âOh, and Taicho, get your work done too, okay? I don't want any excuses about your 'crazy' workload once I'm all done and ready!"Â
Needless to say, Rangiku was definitely in a good moodâ talkative and happy âand today, was definitely one of the much better days. Â

ââ That was, without a doubt, the worst lie Rangiku had told him. Rolling his eyes, he leaned forwards and sipped at his tea. Dangerously, his anger was rising, but he did well to control his temper. âOh really?â He queried, placing his mug down. âSo if I asked Lieutenant Ise if youâd been with her, she would confirm that, right?â He snorted. âAnd itâs not like you to help out with paperwork.â
Now he was going to express his anger.
Snatching a folder of paperwork, he slammed it onto the desk, heavily. Loud enough to create an echo throughout the office. âIf you had time to help Ise with her paperwork â which IÂ doubt she required in the first place â then you have time to finish your own damn paperwork, too!â
No, they were not going outside. No, they were not going to do something fun for lunch today. He was moody enough as it was. The last thing he wanted was to roast under the hot sun, while Rangiku found another excuse to not go into the office today. The heat made people lazy.
That was one reason why TĹshirĹ was dreading the approaching summer.
'Sit down,' he demanded, jarring his teeth.
Truth be told, Rangiku wasn't very excited for summer. It reminded her far too much of the past, and everything was too monotonous, it began to be discomforting. Spring was approaching, the festival was near, Rukongai would celebrate their most loved festival, and more blood would be lost by the katanas of the shinigamis of the Gotei Thirteen. It was her job to protect, but taking others' lives felt like she was taking her own. Life would go on, and there wasn't really much left to look forward to, with the same old routine stuck on repeat.Â
No one knew those dark thoughts, however, but a simple yet somewhat special lunch with her captain, (who did seem a little distant lately) wouldn't hurt anyone â right?Â
It wasn't big news that wanderlust traveled through Rangiku's blood. It was just when and where it would appear at it's strongest desire.Â
"Ne, taicho, if I promise to finish the paperwork now, you'll come out with me for lunch, right? Just the two of us, some place different than here."Â

How hurtful.
Eh? For what?
"I wonder if Taicho would be less stingy with a girlfriend⌠I heard sex makes them less stingy!"
"Excuse me!?"
"I bet you've wondered what it's like to have a girlfriend, ne, Taicho! No need to be shy about it!"
"I wonder if Taicho would be less stingy with a girlfriend... I heard sex makes them less stingy!"
ââ Caught red handed. What a surprise. TĹshirĹ rolled his eyes at her, and straightened in his seat. She was right: he should be training the squad, but, due to unexpected circumstances, the session was cancelled. This wasnât a huge problem for Hitsugaya. It only meant he could get more work done, and it also meant he knew exactly what Rangiku was doing while he was absent.
Really, the Captain should feel disappointed with her. Rangiku had been in temporary command of the Division while TĹshirĹ was away. He wasnât very impressed to discover she wasnât even at her desk, during this time. Frowning at her, he gave his best glare, tapping the end of his pen against the paperwork.
'Yes,' he said sharply, but offered no further explanation. 'Shouldn't you have been in the office two hours ago?â
â "I was out helping Nanao-chan with some Squad 8 and Squad 10 paperwork!"Â Rangiku blurted out an excuse from the top of her mind. Hopefully that would have to do, whether her little captain believed it or not, it was still better than nothing.Â
"Say, taicho, do you think we could go do something fun for lunch today? I'm getting bored of bentos in the office. It's too damn boring in here!"
It wasn't exactly trying to avert the attention on her lateness as it really was getting a little too monotonous and repetitive to have bento boxes in the office for lunch every day. A change would be nice in a while, especially since the Spring festival was coming up, a lot more dishes were welcomed in the restaurants in the Seireitei. Â

ââ âMatsumoto. Youâre late. Again.â
The day had passed so beautifully and peacefully early that afternoon, after a previous night of drinking. Rangiku was surprised she hadn't encountered a hangover after the amount of bottles she and Kira went through â and so decided, it would be a good day.
Because she was in such a good mood, Rangiku decided it wouldn't hurt to come into the office a few hours later, not to break the good vibes. Her captain was probably training the squad at this time, anyway.
Entering the office, while yawning and wiping sleep out of her eyes, she made her way over to her favorite orange couch, propped herself on and relaxed.
A few seconds of relaxation was ruined when a familiar voice came from behind.Â
"âEh?! T-taicho!"
"âAren't you suppose to be training the squad?!"Â
