When you crocheted a Tails cosplay and get to meet Tails 🥹

I gifted Colleen this little Tails Chao (pattern by Goichita on Etsy) and she was so excited that the ball glows in the dark 💙

[“Welcome to the world, Shadow the Hedgehog,” a deceptively familiar voice remarked as he took in his surroundings.

The blue hedgehog noticed he was in the ARK laboratory, assumedly where his darker counterpart had been created. 

To his left, an older, thinner, seemingly kinder version of Eggman stared at him, smiling. Gerald, right? he wondered, recalling the video they saw on the ARK as it went hurtling toward the planet. This must be the scientist before his psychotic break that almost destroyed humanity.

To his right was a young blonde girl, with eyes as intensely blue as his fur. So this must be Maria . She smiled brightly at him.

“But…I’m not Shadow. The name’s Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog,”  Sonic affirmed, confusion in his words as he heard a more gruff voice escape his throat.

The kindly older doctor gave the hedgehog a perplexed look. “Of course you’re Shadow. Maria named you herself.”

At the mention of that name, the blonde girl giggled. “I chose it just for you. A shadow shows us how to find the light, even on the darkest days.”

He glanced down at himself, and surprisingly enough, his fur was black and red. None of the other gates had altered his appearance, let alone to such an extreme degree.

“R-right.”]

[ Shadow reached out for his shoulder, hovering over it in unsureness. “That's where you're wrong. I do understand. You hide behind that fake smile and that fake confidence to keep the world at arm's length.”

“Says the hedgehog who hides behind his fake emo persona and fake aloof demeanor to do the same damn thing.”

“It's not fake of me to distance myself from the world after everything I've experienced,” Shadow retorted, retracting his hand.

Sonic rolled his eyes and turned to face Shadow. “But it's fake if I do it with a smile plastered on my face. Get real. Why do you even care?!” the blue hedgehog shouted, his voice cracking.

Why indeed. Shadow couldn't pinpoint it himself.

“I-I don't—”

“Save it, Shadow. I don't wanna hear it. I'm…gonna go for a run. Don't look for me.”

Shit.

“Sonic, wait!” But he was already gone. ]

[ “And I just think it's hilarious that two of the world's biggest blowhards went from rivals to lovers,” Vector remarked, still laughing.

“It's not bragging if it's the truth,” Sonic and Shadow answered in unison.

“I am the Ultimate Lifeform.”

“And I am the fastest thing alive,” Sonic added, winking.

“Exactly, boys, exactly. And you're already saying stuff at the same time. Shoulda seen this one coming.” Vector patted Sonic and Shadow on the shoulders. ]

[ “Seriously, don’t mention it,” Amy replied, readjusting her red headband. “Though it’s nice to see you two acting the same as usual. Reminds me of old times.”

“All that changed is a label, really. Oh, and I guess I can kiss him now,” Sonic commented as Shadow crept up behind him. He turned and gave the hedgehog a brief, dramatic peck on the lips, as if to prove his point.

Amy smiled and her face flushed slightly. “You two are too much sometimes, you know?”

“More like all the time, to be accurate, Amy,” Tails answered, walking up and rolling his eyes. “These two have no idea when to stop. One minute they’re fighting, the next minute they’re making out, but I guess that means they are all over each other 100% of the time.” Tails chuckled, proud of his little quip. ]

These goofballs really keep me going sometimes lol.

[ Shadow thought about it for a moment as he continued to eat. “Color me surprised. You thought it all through already.” He had to admit that Sonic did pick one of the best spots. The Island floated above the planet, which made for a perfect vantage point.

“I think you look better in the colors black and red, but surprise is amusing to see,” Sonic quipped, chuckling at the play on words.

Shadow rolled his eyes. “You don’t have a serious bone in your body.”

“Nope, all funny bones here.” Sonic beamed a signature megawatt grin and gave a thumbs-up.

“I swear, sometimes I wish I could smack the silly out of you,” Shadow grunted, though there were traces of a smile on his face.

“That’s a compliment coming from you, Shads. Heart you too.” Sonic made the heart hands and winked at the black and red hedgehog.

Shadow’s heart fluttered. ]

[ After a few moments, the blue speedster found himself shuddering. The water was pretty chilly, though Shadow seemed unbothered by it.

The striped hedgehog seemed to notice his partner's discomfort, as he scooped Sonic up bridal-style and drew him closer to his chest.

“For someone who runs full of hot air, you certainly suffer easily from the cold,” Shadow simply stated, gazing into the blue hedgehog’s eyes.

“I can't help it; the water just seeps the heat right out of me.” Sonic pouted as Shadow carried him out of the small pool.

The black and red hedgehog sighed. “Ever the dramaticism. Would you like some cheese to go with that ‘whine’, Hedgehog?”

Sonic was silent for a moment. “...I'd prefer a chili dog, actually,” he answered, a smirk playing on his lips.

Shadow rolled his eyes and sat Sonic down on the solid ground. “Of course you would. A chili dog for a chilly hog.” Shadow couldn't contain a chuckle at that point.

Sonic also cracked up, having never heard Shadow be so unserious before. He wiped a tear from his eye in amusement. ]

[ He needed to go. Now.

Shadow raced over to Tails’ house, and lo and behold, the Doctor's mechanical contraptions had ambushed the building.

He spotted blue and yellow and instinctively made his way over. Sonic suddenly got knocked backward by an Egg Hammer, and while he was flying through the air, Shadow caught him.

“Shucks, Shads, you really know how to sweep a guy off his feet,” Sonic quipped, gazing up at his savior.

Shadow grimaced and raised a brow. “Well, you are quite a catch.”

Sonic laughed, certainly not expecting his humorous energy to be matched. ]
