Another week passed. We were busy on working on the controls, we were discussing what controls we need at all, how to use specific actions, how the control should work overall, how to arrange things and so on. We came up with some possibilities but we decided not to decide how things should look like for now. We decided to collect opinions of our focus group. We were creating our possibilities on paper by sketching them and cutting them out, so they could be arranged individually without much effort to see how it can look like. We summed up a few questions we want to like the people of the focus group, for example how the abilities should be chosen (keyboard, mouse, buttons,...), how the aiming for the attack should work (highlight target, have an cross hairs,...), do we need an inventory and how should it look like and so on. I made three sessions, 2x2 persons and one time one person, one example result after the interview looks like this:
including already the choice for the ability, that only shows up after pressing shift (or any other suited button). The shape of the heads as health indicator was suggested by the first group, the people in the other two sessions liked that idea, althought one group was adapting them a little bit. The answers and opinions on the other questions we prepared were unfortunately but not surprisingly varying, but it lead to much input for our decisions that we were doing in a meeting after the interviews. Many of the decisions weren’t easy but after we made them we splitted up the working and started coding. I am responsible for the UI, where I already made good progression and the use of the abilities. We decided to choose the abilities by clicking on buttons, the player can choose between “attack”, “howl”, “dig” and “track”, afterwards he can click on a position, where the wolf ought to execute the command. That’s what I am working at currently. If I am able to finish that soon I will be also responsible for basic interactiion with the environment like picking up a flower.
