Reflection 3 – Workshop Reflection: Editing to Music(Shoot)
One workshop that I found particularly memorable focused on editing and rhythm. During the class, my group recreated the editing style from the music video You Can Really Dance (Village People, 2008). We filmed a short dance sequence using jump cuts and then edited the footage to match the music.
This activity helped me understand how editing can create energy and movement. Although the dancer appeared to change positions suddenly, the cuts felt natural because they followed the rhythm of the music. It showed me how editing decisions can influence the audience’s experience and make a simple action more engaging.
This workshop influenced my own music video project, On My Way. When editing my final video, I paid more attention to pacing, timing and the relationship between music and visuals. Rather than only focusing on individual shots, I considered how each cut contributed to the overall flow of the video.
Overall, this workshop improved my understanding of music video editing and showed me how rhythm and timing can be used to strengthen visual storytelling.

Reflection 2 – Lecture Reflection: Bricolage
One lecture topic that influenced my project was bricolage. I learned that bricolage is the process of combining different materials, media and ideas to create new meaning. This concept helped me better understand how video can bring together elements from different sources.
I still remember learning about bricolage during the first week of this topic. What impressed me most was the idea that creative work does not always need to start from something completely original. Instead, existing materials, images and media can be combined in new ways to create different meanings and experiences.
This lecture connected strongly to my music video project, On My Way. During the project, I combined live-action footage, AI-generated characters, music and different city locations to create an emotional journey. Although these elements came from different sources, they worked together to communicate themes of loneliness, memory and self-discovery.
Overall, learning about bricolage helped me understand how different materials can be brought together to create meaningful and engaging video work.

Reflection 1 – Nikki Lam: The Unshakable Destiny
For this reflection, I chose Nikki Lam’s The Unshakable Destiny (Lam, n.d.). The work explores ideas of identity, uncertainty and personal experience through moving images and performance. What interested me most was the way it focused on atmosphere and emotion rather than a clear narrative.
While watching the work, I noticed how pacing, repetition and visual composition were used to create meaning. It encouraged viewers to think about their own interpretations rather than providing a direct message. This made me realise that video projects can communicate ideas through mood and symbolism, not just storytelling.
This influenced my own music video project, On My Way. Although my project uses a different format, I also wanted to create an emotional journey for the audience. Through first-person perspectives, city environments and AI-generated characters, I explored themes of loneliness, memory and self-discovery.
Overall, Nikki Lam’s work helped me understand how visual atmosphere can be used to engage audiences and communicate emotions in a creative way.
