The fact I will never have to turn in 2000 words, which had to be hand written, with a fountain pen so someone could make part of my grade a check on writing style… is one of those things that makes the mach of time bearable.

this is a bit of an evergreen post hence me throwing it in queue but like. if conflict - in the work or out of it - were a food, maybe 60% of people in fandom would be fanning their mouths and crying after having the equivalent of a spoonful of plain mayonnaise, and this does inform a lot of like. which opinions I value.

The fact that antisemites are using the word "noticing" and "noticing patterns" as dogwhistles is annoying because I do actually notice a lot of stuff, patterns included, and one of the most obvious patterns I've noticed to date is that all antisemitic rhetoric makes no sense if you think critically about it for 5 seconds. this is what solarpunk means to me. You find a printer. You fix it. You ask someone to please take it off their account and then they do and let you know. Beautiful. 100/10, wish printers didn't have to be tied to accounts in the first place but this is nice.

the thing is I do agree with the sentiment that Demodus kind of did need to set Murray straight that just because he's goofy and young doesn't mean he isn't taking this seriously. Murray needed to hear that for her own peace of mind, as well. he might not be a literal child or her own child, but when you're used to thinking of someone in a certain role, especially a younger person who you feel responsible for, it can be hard to see them maturing and let them grow out of that role. even harder when that person has developed a mask of whimsy to deflect from the hardships they deal with. it was a necessary conversation so she could trust him to handle himself in a dangerous situation, and I think both Marisha and Brennan executed a scene portraying that unique sort of relationship between a mentor figure and student flawlessly.

a week late on this but I really do appreciate how the spectre of Emily Axford haunts the interaction between Tyranny and Tsul'rekshi in the Knife and Pallete. like the little demon being told by the ancient demon affirming that her nature is in fact to cause destruction and harm and that it's not bad because there are people worth hurting could just as easily be an Emily PC moment. I feel like it gets put on Brennan that he just likes the theme of "sometimes you dont need to overcome your nature, sometimes you just learn how to wield it," but honestly it strikes me as his take on the themes Emily likes to explore in her characters.

The halflings tricked Rauwyn, and we don't know precise details of how the other Shapers fell to their respective people of Aramán but it's not that far-fetched to assume, for example, that the dwarves engineered and forged weapons of war against Trozhna, or the beastfolk hunted down Omra. We even know that Tansul had a plan for the future of humans had he been killed, though he did not predict it would be humans who would kill him. But there was no way to ever beat Sylandri with what she gave them. She really did have no greater vision for her people to realize.
