his full lore isn't super fleshed out in my head beyond little snippets and important turning points in his life, but i do think he grew up in a sorta broken home. a childhood that made him deeply insecure and pushed him to cope through toxic carelessness and self-destructive behavior.

his father was probably very hyper masculine. raised him rough and tumble, and punished him for perceived weakness or "pussy" behavior. and his mother was likely emotionally withdrawn. it was definitely rare for him to receive any kind of physical affection, which contributed to his development into an attention-whoring fuckboy. sleeping around and seeking out that close intimacy without committing to an actual relationship. because in a real relationship, he's letting people in. in a real relationship, he's risking all that pain that he fights so hard to bury deep and ignore.

when he was old enough to, he escaped the house any chance he could. looking for friendships in all the wrong places. it was his gateway into drinking. into smoking. into fucking around with his life and damning all the consequences to hell. he'd load himself up into his friend's van and drive far out into the countryside. wander abandoned buildings. hike across the train tracks. sneak into girls' houses and piss off their dads.

he quickly detached himself from the idea of having a home. he's a man who has serious commitment issues, and hates feeling tied down to something he's so terrified to lose again. he'll fling himself into relationships, and when they get too real, he bails. he's for sure avoidant attachment when it comes to his love life.

he grew up isolated and alone, and through his own self-loathing, perpetuated that cycle to continue by pushing everyone away. he thinks it's just easier this way. because he doesn't realize that not living like this is even possible for someone like him.

fboy!leon would almost definitely categorize his musical tastes according to context/mood/situation. he's very guarded about which sides of his personality and inner life he reveals to people, so there'll be entire branches of his collection that most will never see or be aware of.

EMO would likely be a very big cornerstone of his life. i heavily fuck with the headcanon of leon kennedy being born and raised somewhere in or around the midwest, so midwest emo, alt emo, emo punk, and similar genres would be shit he'd grow up blasting into his ears as a teen. raw, vulnerable, lonely music with cracking vocals and melancholic guitar riffs. this would be stuff he pulls out on those real bad days. days where he just needs to throw shit around and scream and be pissed at the world.

HOT MULLIGAN, ARMOR FOR SLEEP, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, FREE THROW, CAP'N JAZZ, DRIVE LIKE JEHU

artists like the above kinda captures the sounds i'm thinking of. he definitely has a small CD collection stuffed inside a shoebox of albums he treasured so much growing up, along with his childhood walkman player. he may or may not carry some amount of shame or guilt regarding these genres. they are so ingrained in his perception of himself as a small, helpless and desperately lonesome kid that he figures being into this shit is cringe and lame. it's not music he'd share with anyone unless he genuinely trusts them.

POP would be what he leans on when bottles start popping (heh). someone's handing him the aux at a party? no problem, he's got it on lock. he'd veer towards sensual, pulsating stuff. music that intermingles with trap, house, and edm. electronic noise that hits straight for your hips and pumps up the adrenaline. no way in hell would he let the Vibes be at risk of slowing down. angst? yearning? turmoil? no. it's Party Time.

WEISS, WESTEND, MATRODA, LIL NAS X, TIËSTO, QUINTINO

depending on his motivations, he'd pick household names to feature on his playlist. something he can throw up and use as a quick icebreaker to kickstart a conversation. "yeah? you listen to THE WEEKND too? that's awesome. we have so much in common." it's kind of a coinflip on whether he actually gives a shit about any artist he uses for this purpose.

HIP-HOP would serve to bridge the gap between his flippant, party-goer side and his softer, reflective side. the music feels smooth and confident, yet the lyrics sort of soothe something restless in his insecurities. it's music he doesn't mind revealing as a genre he's into, though he'll probably lie and be avoidant about what really draws him towards it as an art form. he'll respect these artists for how they convey themselves emotionally, and will gradually learn to lean on their stories as a means to come to terms with his inner demons.

KID CUDI, KENDRICK LAMAR, CHILDISH GAMBINO, FRANK OCEAN, MAC MILLER

ROCK and METAL will also take priority in his life. i like to think there's a deep nostalgia he refuses to confront when listening to it. maybe his dad was a big metalhead or garage rock guy, and blasted the classics while working on his truck. and, of course, the texture and sheer power of this music gives him the tinglies. sometimes he feels invincible listening to certain songs. almost as if shit never hit the fan and he still had a happy family. or something. he has a big soft spot for older hits, but continues to seek out new stuff as he gets older. he definitely loves going to a thrashing rock show to mosh and get wasted.

JUDAS PRIEST, RADIOHEAD, KINGS OF LEON (he definitely thinks it's the coolest thing that he is also named leon), LIMP BIZKIT, TOOL, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, GOJIRA

hard to really say what music he'd dislike. i can see him wrinkling his nose at mainstream country music, but being just fine with dolly parton or johnny cash. i don't think he'd necessarily hate something like polka, but he'd sort of laugh and roll his eyes and question what the fuck he's listening to. unfortunately, it'll probably take a lot for him to get into showtunes, or big band. and classical orchestra music? uhhhhhh. he's passing tf out.

i could probably keep humming and hawing over every single genre that exists, but this is a good comprehensive list i think!!! and again, this is just what i can personally envision :) feel free to disregard this if you want LOL...
