When you remember that Lyra was an ambitious woman who viewed Ed and Al as her role models. Despite this, she’d placed them, State Alchemists, on a high pillar above other people. The argument between Dante and Ed at the end of FMA '03 is interesting, because they're both wrong, just not for the reasons either of them thinks. Dante's correct to point out the flaw in Ed's thinking about how EE works. Scientific principles don't apply to social phenomena (at least not per se), and Ed is naïve to turn thermodynamics into a metanarrative.

But then at the same time her arguments for this are so bad it warps back around. She dismisses EE wholesale precisely because it can't be used as a metanarrative, but this also means she dismisses thermodynamics as a thing, which is equally naïve.

so in the 2003 fma, it's at least implied (maybe outright stated? it's been long enough i don't remember) that dante is the one who names the homunculi.

from a meta perspective, it's symbolic of notable flaws of their creators, and maybe dante means it that way too, but really think about the implications.

when hohenheim tried to bring their son back to life, made a fucked up clone instead, and then ditched them, she named the clone envy. was she planning on the seven deadly sins theme, did she only name him later when she came up with it, or did she call him that from the start due to his nature as "almost my son but not quite" and then came up with the theme later? regardless of the reason, it's kinda fucked up.

and then later she made a clone of one of her dead lovers and called him greed. was she subtly admitting to her own greedy nature, or was she basically calling him a gold digger?
