It is very annoying that people are still trying to justify Daenerysâ slaughter. It doesnât even matter whether it was rage, pain or madness. She was able to make choices and she made one.
When my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who have wronged me! We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground! Turn us away, and we will burn you first.

Daenerys has a vision of the Iron Throne room destroyed and covered in ash. She walks towards the throne but doesnât actually touch it.Â

The conversation she has when she says that her reasons are above others and right.

Daenerys considers attack Kingâs Landing directly with all three dragons, but Tyrion convinces her not to. She threatens to ignore Tyrionâs further advice and burn down Kingâs Landing.
Bend the knee and join me or refuse and die.

Perhaps itâs good the people see Daenerys Stormborn made every effort to avoid bloodshed and Cersei Lannister refused. They should know whom to blame when the sky falls down on them.
Far more people in Westeros love you than love me. I donât have love here. I only have fear.
Alright then. Let it be fear.
Daenerys did good things too, of course, but her coin has been tossing for a while and it has finally landed. Throughout the series she talks about how people will embrace the rightful heir of the throne but when she gets to Westeros, she realizes that they donât trust her (rightfully so, they donât know her and all they know about her house is the Mad King), but she makes no real effort to gain their trust as she did in other parts of the world. A people cannot simply bow down to you in a short time unless it is from fear.Â
When she sees people donât love and trust her and that Jon, the man with a better claim on the iron throne, is actually popular, she grows restless, paranoid and sheâs no longer rational in her thoughts, even if Jon had bent the knee and lost credibility with some of his men for doing so. He promised her she doesnât want the throne but the seed of paranoia was still there.Â
She did suffer losses for Westeros and she did work her way up so I can understand the pain of realizing that youâve come a long way just to find out that what you thought was yours suddenly isnât, but here is an important point where her decisions marked the path she was gonna go down on. She didnât care about whether or not the throne was hers, she thought she deserved it. She manipulated Jon even when he said he didnât want to be king and proved it.
To be fair, you can see her self righteousness throughout the seasons.Â
When the bells rang she realized it was time for her to spare the city, spare Cersei and the people around her and the soldiers who took her good friend and decapitated her, the people who killed one of her children. And the rage was too strong for her.
Sometimes it is better to answer injustice with mercy. I will answer injustice with justice, I will rule.
But Daenerys went beyond an eye for an eye, she slaughtered the whole town.Â
Itâs not âout of nowhereâ. Itâs always been there, just not very obvious, especially because until recently she was doing this to characters most fans didnât care about or didnât like.Â
I agree it was rushed and I agree it could have been done better, but the conclusion was going to be the same.
