Every single moment of this had been a complete shock- out of the blue. Or had it been? They had been growing closer, been spending more time togetherâ hell, she felt like Enid knew her better than anybody here at the colony. And she had been a pleasant woman to get to know. Enid was smart and patient and caring. She was so easy to talk to and to share with; nightmares and aspirationsâ and everything in between.
The bond they had been through over this summer had been sealed with this kiss- and as unexpected as it had been; Tara found that she hadnât been put off by it. She just had no idea that the other woman could feel such a way. Maybe it was loneliness, maybe they were just testing the the waters- either way, Tara hadnât realized just how much she had craved to know this feeling again and it made her stomach flip. It made her head spin- and when she finally felt as if she was back to reality, it was over. But, theyâre still close, and Taraâs hands were still glued to Enidâs waist.
âDonâtâŚâ She needed a moment to catch her breath. âPlease, donât beââ And chocolate eyes slowly opened to take in the sight before her. âJust⌠took me by surprise, thatâs all.â A small laugh pressed through parted lips.
Jittered fingers brushed back a strand of dark hair behind Enidâs earâ and suddenly any sign of sleep in her near future had been extinguished. âI, uhââ Lips closed and opened, and she looked similar to a fish, in zoned out thought. âWow, I justââ Suddenly words became very difficult. âHello. Hi.â A grin as she mentally cursed her own inability to form a coherent thought. And before she could talk herself out of it, her head dipped to capture Enidâs lips once more.
It was weird to say that Enid never felt this way about anyone.  At least not with anyone when the world had come to this.  Carl and Enid shared one kiss - they were best friends, there was nothing more to it.  During these past few summer nights however, sheâd gotten closer to Tara, sure they were friendly before, but Tara had become a great friend to Enid.  The two became close.  Not only sharing dreams and aspirations with each other, but realizations and nightmares as well.  Tara had been something more to Enid. And yet, the medic couldnât put her finger on what that was exactly. Bringing herself down a path that she had only gone down once in her life - a time in high school with her best friend.  Life always threw Enid curve balls and she did her best to catch them.
She apologized, shaking her head a little as she looked down. Â Nevertheless,
Enid couldnât help but smile - because nothing about this felt wrong.
Slowly, the younger of the two lifted her head when Tara said that single word. Donât. One of Enidâs hands ran down Taraâs arm, her fingers softly running against Taraâs wrist as she told her not to be sorry. Â Sheâd try not to, but even as Tara pushed back hair behind her ear, Enid could feel her heart rate pick up, her cheeks flushing a light pink.
Her lips turned into a smile when she heard hi, and Enid just laughed, thinking it was completely adorable. Â âHi,â she giggled a little, but was caught off guard when Tara was the one to kiss her now.
Eyes fluttered shut instantly and before she knew it, Enid draped her arms around Taraâs shoulders to hold her close into the kiss which was slow and meaningful - completely welcome and wanted.
