Stripped to Word Alone
Untitled Ballad of White Women in Bb Words and music by Jason Florence Copyright 10-99 MISC Music/ASCAP The Chinese came to San Francisco in 1879 To build the American railroad line And they were pretty cheap labor so most people didn't mind The opium as long as they did it with their own kind But as hard as they tried It proved difficult to find Chinese women in the Pacific Northwest in 1879 Who were looking for a good time But there were white women And plenty of them Now the thought of white women in opium dens Was a thought white men couldn't comprehend So they made opium against the law Well for the Chinese it was cause white women Were ordering it from the Sears and Roebuck catalog They called it "heroin" and it sold for a dollar seventy-nine Now that's a better life at a great price The softer side of Sears Do as I say not as I do What's good for me ain't good enough for you These three things they can't control: Long live sex, drugs and rock and roll When the Mormons headed down to Mexico They came back they had marijuana in tow For a people promoting multiple wives The Mormans are actually kind of uptight Cause what's the point in plural wives If you can't do them at the same time So Morman chicks and immigrants getting high Didn't really fly They could've blamed the stress on all those kids It was easier to blame the Mexicans Summertime in '32 the living was easy Jazz was jumpin' from Nawlins to the Windy City Chicks mesmerized Cab Calloway Almost hypnotized you must say That funny reefer man musta been a secret plan To take away our women And we couldn't have that cause if they went black They might not ever wanna come back And that propaganda quickly spread And the New York Times falsely read: "Marijuana causes a Negro to look a white man Straight in the eye" And reading like a word of advice Said, "Makes 'em look at a white woman twice" Do as I say, not as I do What's good for me ain't good enough for you These three things they can't control: Long live sex, drugs and rock n' roll George W. Bush spent most of his youth Drinking champagne and snorting cocaine Instead of fighting in the Vietnam War And to this day that's the one I respect George Bush for But he had an opportunity at the end of his presidency To free six million black men serving triple the time For smoking a cheaper version of the same shit he had done Prick! Barack H. Obama, he campaigned on a platform of change So he readily admitted that he too, in his youth, once or twice snorted cocaine And that's pretty cool, but I'm glad he did it before he was president, you know Cause if my finger were on the button the last thing I'd wanna be on is blow Cause you lose your temper easily, you need something a little bit more mellow Which is why I wrote on a ballot note, in the last election That the finger on the button I trust the most is the middle one of Willie Nelson's Do as I say, not as I do What's good for me ain't good enough for you These three things, they can't control: Long live sex, drugs and rock n' roll In the '60's parents began to lose track of their sons and their daughters They lost a lotta boys to war, But that was war And people understand war, but free love and their daughters? That was something they just weren't quite ready for This next part of history is brought to you by the letters LBJ, CIA and FBI Cause if anybody could make federal case outta this It'd be one of these three guys Now the problem at hand wasn't something so bad that couldn't be fixed With further legislation They did't meet long the solution was so loud It began to drown out their conversation Outside the windows of Washington, DC Were the youth of America On LSD Singing: "Lucy in the sky with diamonds Lucy in the sky with diamonds Lucy in the sky with diamonds Ah!" Well, all the truth in the world adds up to one big lie I should know I stole these chords from John Lennon And that last line from Bob Dylan It doesn't matter if I win or lose I'm just trying to play the game If the times they are a-changing Why does everything stay the same? The average person addicted to heroin today is still a white woman And no one's asking why or even batting an eye cause at least it ain't with some Chinese guy

It Is What It Is
So I was browsing an alternative social media site today (because i am an apprent shameless self-promoter, attention-seeking whore) when I came across a profile of a grad student who specifically stated that if your profile had the banal expression "it is what it is" that you "probably" shouldn't message her. So, of course, I messaged her. Not so much in attempt to change her mind about anything....more of an attempt to ease my own mind about everything. Jun 6, 2011 β 5:04pm I, at one point in my life, used to cringe anytime I heard anyone speak those words. But then I found myself asking, "why is this phrase so popular?" so I began to analyze it. And I realized that this is actually a profound statement. In other words "nothing is different, but everything changes" or "after changes upon changes we are more or less the same." So I wrote a song titled "It Is What It Is": It Is What It Is Words and Music by: Jason Florence Copyright 10-99 MISC Music/ASCAP I didn't see the cop in time to reduce my speed I didn't get the window down in time to ditch the weed So they took me to a jail cell and took my wallet, belt and pants Boy, you gotta have a lot of nerve to outlaw a plant And there ain't no end No where to begin I can't run against the wind In the shape I'm in And between you and me It is what it is and what it always will be I saw a picket line as it formed a picket fence Each side a picket sign and the anger was intense Well it's tough to keep things open with a latch on the gate Closed minds, zoos and prisons, oh the world loves a cage And there ain't no end No where to begin I can't run against the wind In the shape I'm in And between you and me It is what it is and what it always will be I have been sitting so long on that picket fence it's time I take a stand Well, come to think of it, on the other hand Maybe it's best if I just keep on moving, yeah that's it Cause a moving target is harder to hit
Rest In Peace, Dr. Kevorkian
I was born here and I'll die here, against my will I know it looks like I'm movin' but I'm standing still Every nerve in my body is so naked and numb I can't even remember what it was I came here to get away from Don't even hear the murmur of a prayer It's not dark yet, but it's getting there -Bob Dylan
Inside Joke - "I'll be doing a major college tour this fall"
I have received a few emails over the past couple of months asking if JayFlo & Seacat have broken up. I am happy to say, "No." Seacat is family. You can't break that up, no matter how hard you try. But, I am once again recording and performing solo. Words alone can not express enough of my appreciation for the contributions that Seacat made to my works. Most of the songs I have written were composed with Seacat's voice in my head. Stop by JayFlo.com for an update on what's new, including new show dates, travel dates and - as always - free music.
