Fellow epileptics, I have some fantastic news for you. Thereâs an add-on that makes the internet safer for us. Itâs called Epilepsy Blocker. The creator had me test it out, give feedback, he made adjustments, and it works great. It may even help those with migraine disorders that are triggered by the same thing that messes with those of use with photosensitive epilepsy (mine is a case of being absurdly sensitive).
This is the only add-on Iâve encountered made specifically for those of us with epilepsy. Itâs not a well known add-on, but I hope to see that change.

Everything wrong(questionable) in the Harry Potter Books:
We can acknowledge the J.K. Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books but we also have to have a conversation admitting the flaws and harmful ideologies the books hold. Simply the best way to show your appreciation for a work is to criticize the work, and acknowledge the flaws. At the end of the day the art still can have flaws, so speaking about this in the Hp books some things that can be found as flaws are:
The fat phobia, simply the characters who were written as âfatâ, âhuskyâ or âbiggerâ were often depicted as villainous such as Crab, Goyle, and Dudley.
The goblins at Gringotts, describing them in ways that were used to stereotype Jewish people during the Holocaust, such as âlong hooked noisesâ that appeared on nazi propaganda. As well as describing them as smart, and greedy with their riches, furthering another stereotype held.
The pro slavery narrative? That house elves are just so âthankfulâ to be enslaved and that they think itâs their only life obligations. Seems really weird that they would sympathize with their oppressor and want to be enslaved.
Professor Quirellâs turban âhiding evilâ, this is self explanatory but disrespects those who wear a turbans or any sort of headscarf covering for religious faith, making them out to be evil.
Little to no representation for poc(let alone no good representation)
The stereotyping of Indian character, Padma and Parvati Patil deserved so much better. As well as their names are some of the most stereotypical names to give a character of Indian descent.
Having 2 of the very FEW black characters(referencing Dean and Blaise) not having a father figure, this perpetuates a negative stereotype of black fathers being absent in their families life
Going further on the Jewish stereotypes of being very greedy and selfish we are introduced to âAnthony Goldsteinâ whom we know is Jewish solely from his name.
Cho Chang, we are going to give a Chinese character a Korean name?? Let alone cho chang, that is one of the most stereotypical names Iâve ever heard.
Promoting harmful stereotypes but what about how Seamusâ only character trait is liking rum and blowing stuff up. This isnât a little harmful of an Irish stereotype to push?
We had a black wizard with the last name âShakelboltâ, am I the only one that finds that wrong??

As well as after coding Rita Skeeter as a trans woman, Rita also uses her status as an illegal animagus to spy on children in gof. Pushing that narrative that trans people are using their identity to be able to have access to children and those of the opposite gender, a harmful stereotype cis people have towards trans people. (Itâs not explicitly stated that Rita is trans but I read her as trans as well as she is described with masculine features and coded that way by Jkr)
Fleur losing every event. Arguably you can say âoh someone has to looseâ but if when the only woman competing who the goblet chose her as one of the most capable wizards at her school to compete, why is she not on the same level as the men. Why isnât she a more capable wizard? There were tens of other wizards from her school that possible could have been picked but she was the best. And she lost? Almost as if jkr deeply rooted misogyny never planned on giving fleur a decent chance.
Hermioneâs inner misogyny(I love Hermione but she was written with inner misogyny especially since jkr has it). Such as her down playing Dolores assault, her hatred towards lavender(it wasnât just jealousy), bullying/calling fleur rude names(especially since fleur is very feminine and a veela), ect trust me thereâs more
Demeaning or villainizing femine interest or things stereotypically femine that can perpetuate misogyny. Like the balant disliking of Padma and Lavender for gossiping, or taking interest in fashion(notable stereotypically feminine interests).
Trigger warning: SA/R@PE. Although it is not clearly stated when umbridge is taken away by the centaurs but it alludes to her being r@ped by the centaurs. In alot of Greek myths along with stories centaurs have been known to r@pe helpless women. Even if it is not clearly written, most people know of these stories about centaurs can connect two together. Going back to the point of Hermione misogyny after Umbridgeâs attack she mocks her, victim shaming her. Itâs gross and disgusting.

Itâs obvious that it pushed harmful narrative especially towards those with disabilities or similar situations.

we need to have a serious talk about antisemitism in America. yesterday, there was a hostage situation in a synagogue in Texas, where a gunman took for people including a rabbi hostage. he wanted to have someone released from prison. I forget who, but she was charged with 80 something years back in 2010. so what do you think this gunman does? does he contact the police or the president and demand the prisoner be released?
no. he tells the rabbi to call another rabbi in New York, and to have that rabbi release the prisoner. now, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that his plan was completely stupid. the rabbi in New York had no relation to with prisoner, the prison she was in, or even the justice system at all. so why did the gunman think that the new york rabbi would have the authority to release a random prisoner who was sentenced 12 years ago? one word. antisemitism
most antisemites have the insane belief that all Jews are secretly controlling the world, or the government, or the banks, or natural disasters, or... you get it. its entirely based on fake and antisemitic conspiracy theories, and it literally gets people killed. this gunman thought that a rabbi in New York had the authority and power and ability to release a prisoner who I'm pretty sure isn't even imprisoned in the state of New York (don't quote me on that though). (edit, she was imprisoned within Texas?! literally what is the logic here?!)

So apparently last year the National Park Service in the US dropped an over 1200 page study of LGBTQ American History as part of their Who We Are program which includes studies on African-American history, Latino history, and Indigenous history.Â
Like. This is awesome. But also it feels very surreal that maybe one of the most comprehensive examinations of LGBTQ history in America (it covers sports! art! race! historical sites! health! cities!) was just casually done by the parks service.Â

We used it in my LGBT history class and itâs SO WONDERFUL I LOVE it PLEASE READ at least some chapters. It has photos and sources and goes into detail in footnotes when it doesnât have time for a tangent.
Hey! While those are amazing ways of supporting trans women and you should def check out and donate to these orgs, Iâd like to remind people that Rowlingâs terf bullshit has impacted very badly trans people in the UK, and all those are all US orgs from what I can gather. Itâs great to support them, but Rowling has been particularly influential in fucking over trans peopleâs lives in the UK and made it really unsafe for UK trans people (which, as ever, means itâs even more unsafe for UK trans poc) .
Iâd also argue that while Rowling is particularly vitriolic towards trans women, her stance and voice and lobbying end up affecting trans people in the UK as a whole. So while you shower trans women with love and support, please spread some of that love and support to other trans people too!
Itâs past midnight and I have to be up in less than 5 hours so I donât have the time or energy to put up an actual list myself besides some quick searching, but Iâd love for everyone reblogging this to look up local trans uk orgs, especially trans poc uk orgs, and support them too.

Iâm also encouraging you to, in general, consider also supporting non-US trans people and organisations, even if they get less promoted (especially non-Western ones!). Trans people exist all over the world and deserve just as much support!!

like literally the US govât has people whose job it is to go and interview the family, friends, & neighbors of disabled people to just make sure that they never refer to anyone in their life as âmy wifeâ or âmy husbandâ etc
and if you DO, then SNAP! Youâre defrauding the US govât of the pittance you can barely survive on and you are no longer entitled to your disability benefits
(some kinds of benefits might remain in diminished form but if you were disabled before age 22 you are fucked COMPLETELY and canât get them back even if you divorce⌠the only loophole is if the other person was ALSO deemed disabled before 22, because that fucking makes sense)
and this is just⌠legal and no one but disabled activists ever talks about this shit
so yeah Iâd love some of that gay marriage shit but I will never be able to get married, and to add insult to injury, I canât even casually refer to my partner as âmy wifeâ without risking the health insurance and income I need to survive as a disabled lesbian
