Just did this. The opt out and deletion process was easy and painless. Considering what we’ve seen of data breaches and the fact that Google straight up deleted their “Don’t be evil” clause? It seemed worth it to me.

This should be required learning, internationally. 

I did a report on this in my World History class my sophomore year of high school. It was incredibly unsettling.

I have reblogged this in the past, but it is so ironic that it comes across my dash right now. I a currently working as a docent at my city’s Holocaust Education Center (( I say currently because I’ve also done research and translation for them )) and out current exhibit is one on loan from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum ((USHMM)). This is a little known historical fact that Paragraph 175 was not repealed after the war and those convicted under Nazi laws as a danger to society because they were gay were not released because they had be convicted in a court of law. There was no liberation or justice for them as they weren’t considered criminals, or even victims for that matter. They were criminals who remained persecuted and ostracized and kept on the fringes of society for decades after the war had been won. Paragraph175 wasn’t actually repealed until 1994. And it was only in May 2002, that the German parliament completed legislation to pardon all homosexuals convicted under Paragraph175 during the Nazi era. History has forgotten about these men and women — please educate yourselves so this does not happen again. Remember this history. Remember them.

The fuck even is a map, had to look it up because like… wtf? :/ why would anyone accept an alternative to the word pedophile. If you’re an adult and are attracted to anyone younger than adult you’re a pedophile (yes I understand technicalities surrounding what pedophile actually means specifically, but it’s generally accepted as a broad term) and even if you haven’t acted on those impulses, that shits just wrong, and you need to get fucking help.

So, I looked in the comments, expecting to see discourse or historical background etc, but I found none. Therefore, I decided to learn more and add background. Apparently this machine was used because of polio because polio paralyzes your lungs. According to the wiki article on this bad boy, patients would spend two weeks in there sometimes. They still have these machines, though much, much more modern but they’re barely used at all anymore: “In 1959, there were 1,200 people using tank respirators in the United States, but by 2004 there were only 39. By 2014, there were only 10 people left with an iron lung.” (x)

It’s amazing to me to recognize that we only defeated polio in this past century - that my mother’s father had it (he got lucky, it only deformed his feet and thereby kept him out of a couple wars); my mother got the big vaccination that left her upper arm scarred; and by the time I was vaccinated, polio basically didn’t exist. My grandfather must have been born like around 1900, so - in the space of less than 75 years, this was no longer something that parents dreaded the possibility of every summer.

In the 1950s, my mother would go to the corner shop. The owners had a daughter a few years older than my mum. She lived in an iron lung in the back of the shop. Vaccinate your fucking kids.

In 1956 my mother ended up in an iron lung due to polio when she was only 2 years old. She survived thankfully, but permanently lost the use of legs. It's essential to get vaccinated and vaccinate your kids so things like these won't happen again. No-vax people are just as delusional as they are dangerous for their own kids and for other people.
