Hello Unicorn Academy Nation! How are we feeling?

I want to let you know that it's y'all fault I made a Tumblr account. I can't believe after years of lurking I'll finally be participating in a fandom for it being so small. (/jk)

Anyway, I wrote a fanfic. I'll post the whole one shot on AO3 in a few days. Here's a short preview for the time being.

Outsider - excerpt

"Regina!" Valentina called out to her cousin. "Where is your unicorn? You promised to show her one day."

Regina smiled to the little six years old Val.

"She is at the Academy. When you visit me there, I'll introduce you to her." She stroked the little one's hair. "Sadly, the unicorns can't leave the Island while we’re students."

"Boooring!" Chimed in a young girl from behind, her age around eleven. She had just stepped into the room when she was taken aback by what she had just seen. "O. M. G. Your hair is PINK!" She pointed at the magenta locks in Regina's braid.

"Serena, you're here!" Val jumped to greet the arriving girl in a sweet hug. The three of them are finally together. Some of them were always busy. But it didn't matter. Right now, they were standing there with each other in Regina's room. The boring adults could have their own boring adult conversations about boring adult stuff down the hall. "Gina told me about Glimmer. When I grow up, my unicorn will be just as cool! I'll be the best rider ever!"

"That's great. Anyway, Uncle Leo told me lunch will be ready in an hour." Serena shared a hug with Regina too. She looked around the room; something caught her eyes on the desk. "By the way, how is school?"

"It’s wonderful. Glimmer is the most amazing partner. She completes me in a way that no one else can. We're meant to be." Regina's eyes sparked brightly. "The Diamond Dorm is the best, there are no greater friends anywhere else. When you get into the Academy, you'll get your own squad too. Hey, did you know that Auntie became a teacher?"

"Whoaaaah." Valentina couldn't help getting excited.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Serena picked up a picture frame inspecting it closer. Her eyes narrowed with suspicion.

"Hey Serena!" Regina tried to catch her cousin's eye. "How's your singing coming along?"

The girl put the picture of the Diamond Dorm residents face down.

"I won the biggest junior singing competition in the country. I know I'm getting better and better but Grandmama doesn't care. She always says it distracts me from riding!"

Serena was bitter. There was also a hint of self-pride in her voice. Yet it was hard to stay proud when Grandmama didn’t acknowledge your accomplishments.

"She wants what's the best for you. One day she'll see you for who you are, I promise." Regina casted a gentle smile. She knew. Everyone knew. Approval outside of unicorn riding was impossible.
